I was a big fan when he was drafted; never improved his footspeed and hasn't shown he can be a 'smart' defender. I'd be very surprised if he makes the team this year. Should be extra depth if nothing else.

Lol, and to think that at one time others thought that he was worth Sean Couturier

Didn't have a good showing with the Avs. Weak on the puck, made stupid plays. He got sent to the AHL and then he just flat out gave up and didn't bother trying anymore.

He is someone I thought would make an impact in the NHL. Was always so calm and collected in Junior. Always made the right play.

6pts in 39 games and a team worst +/- in the AHL at 23yrs old definitely screams NHL dman.

NJ does not have the deepest defence right now. He did well with the Coyotes in 2014-15 in some spurts.

I could see this being a super sleeper signing.

I agree, at one time I wanted the Flyers to trade for him. I thought he'd be a solid 2nd pairing guy. Just never translated to the NHL

Gormley didn't care one bit in the AHL last season. I don't think that is indicative of who he is as a player. He isn't an everyday NHL defender though. The Avs gave him a shot and he was pretty bad.

I was looking at the free agent list just yesterday and saw him and wondered if someone would take the chance on him. Good for him. Good depth signing if nothing else.

No risk at all. Nothing to say positively or negatively other than that. Hope he gets it together. Hynes/Nasreddine have done well so far with defensive reclamation projects or at least getting something out of guys, granted its only been one season but at least there's some hope? If betting, he's Albany bound.
