And rightfully so out of the league.

It's insane that this Lou glorifies and romanticizes this line.

I don't think that line is a major problem on this team, as much as I think Gio isn't a center. Our major problem is the top 6.

He can't possibly be as bad next year as he was this year. Regression to the mean, anyone?

He was horrendously unlucky last year. I wouldn't be surprised if, at his age, Bernier brings down sh% a little bit, especially when playing in the top 6, but there's no way it should drop to 1-point-something or whatever it was. He and Carter's possession numbers were still on par with what they'd been the last few years.

Also, I mind this deal a lot less as long as there's like 4 or 5 RW options before him for the top 3 spots, and I think we have that between Jagr, Ruutu, Ryder, Brunner, and Havlat.

The line was a significant part of why we got to the finals in 2012, provided for some of our only offensive support in 2013, and struggled as did the rest of the offense in 2014

Where is the surprise?

You act as if he personally harmed you or a family member, relax with the armchair arnold crap

It's alarming why our GM would want to pay a nickel to a player who was so awful last season.

Why even offer a contract to him and possibly have him roster-block younger player with a higher upside?

Our coach also overvalues Gio and gives him way too many minutes.

It frustrates me to no end.

What younger player is he blocking?

That younger player would be blocked regardless even if they played well, we have a surplus of forwards, but there are still questions and depth/options that we need to have present in the event that several factors such as injuries or poor performances take place - and if we did give those younger players a shot and they were to struggle then we are stuck without options

Players have rough seasons sometimes it happens, in case you didn't see Lou's quote about Bernier today, Lou acknowledged he had a rough season and that they are trying to resurrect him - in other words his leash is short

If Bernier struggles, there is a likely chance the backup plan is a kid like Boucher or Matteau, let the 20 year olds get some more time in the AHL

Gionta and Bernier saw 12 minutes a game last season, hardly an issue....were they used in questionable late game situations, sure, but we had no offense last season, we needed to try whatever we could because nothing else sure as hell was working

A short leash hahahahaha, you can be damn sure if he's on the team Pete's going to use him and use him a lot. He could not have possibly been worse than last year and he still played 78 games.

Resurrect his career, what a crock of ****.

Be gone foul beast!

We had no offense being generated last year and our depth was poor, many different things were tried as we saw with guys like Bernier and Gionta getting more time than they should have because nothing else was working, what is the surprise?

Things are different heading into this year, we have plenty of depth on paper offensively, but we're complaining about a fringe player making just above the league minimum who may not crack the lineup if he can't produce

OK. Replace drafting with "lack of talent in the minors". There isn't any one in the system capable of replacing Bernier ? The guy did nothing last year.

You're right.

Still, i'm betting any one of the youngsters in the Minors could replace bernier. However, the thing is that Bernier has something they don't and that's NHL experience which is the only thing keeping his sorry ass in the lineup(that and Lou's hard-on for him for some reason) 'cause it sure as hell ain't "TALENT" which the youngsters in the minors have more of than him.

floor hockey steve probably doesn't make it through camp if he plays as horrible as he did the last 30 games.

I like this signing too. Almost at league minimum, he can produce or if he doesn't he can be a healthy scratch. No risk. He can certainly be effective on the 4th line.

We could probably replace him with Matteau, but Matteau's development is better suited to more time in the AHL.

I don't quite know why we didn't decide to replace him with Sislo, who now seems ticketed back to the minors.

Go brief that to Pete, who used him on a line with Elias along with giving him PP time.

Granted he has played effectively on the 4th line in seasons prior to last year.
Pete over-values his pets, and it costs the team points.

Brunner was hurt this season at times and Ryder sucks...no other real options.

The current issue with Bernier is not that Pete played him in places he shouldn't have last season because he stunk. The real issue is that Lou would sign him this season for whatever price. Lou has lost it. The same applies to S. Gionta. Pete probably influenced Lou while Lou knows that Pete is on his last leg and probably out the door this season. Lou is doing whatever he can to appease everyone because his job is on the line.
