The news gets better:

Tom Gulitti ‏@TGfireandice 14s
The seven-year extension begins in 2015-16.

Tom Gulitti ‏@TGfireandice 37s
For those asking, Schneider's expiring contract remains intact. So, with extension, he's under contract with Devils for next 8 seasons.

well that was known to be fair

My wife got me an Authentic Kovy jersey for my birthday and 3 weeks later he retired. .....never follow that logic lol.

At least I'm not alone  I only have 3 jerseys and I've been a fan since 93. Got all 3 the last few years. 1 Parise... He leaves a few months later. Kovy extention... Get a Kovy... He retires. 3..... Brodeur. That one I'll never regret. Framed and hanging on the wall.

There's always that someone....

But seriously, you think it's too long a term?

You could post a video of puppies frolicking in dandelions and at least 1 person would post something negative. As you said, there's always someone...

I will feel better about this contract after next season when he gets 60+ starts and helps us make the playoffs.

This is awesome news. We couldn't be luckier in what we've been able to witness in goal the last 20 years, and we somehow managed to pull off obtaining an incredible heir to Marty's throne.

I know everyone is nervous regarding the length and term as there is the impression that goaltending is not as relevant to success these days, but if we were not willing to pay up based on his overall play, there's no way he would've stayed. He would've probably gotten much more on the open market as well.

This is a fantastic deal. Lou has done a great job so far this offseason. If he extends Greene and deals a forward or two, it'll only be even better.
