I like his chances better than that of the Queen of the Pinkshirts. We're addressing our scoring issues.

I think both orgs are doomed for mediocrity for the foreseeable future. Devils have nothing up front outside of Henrique long term and are relying almost exclusively on the spotty UFA market. Two huge holes will be left vacant in the next season or two when Elias or Jagr depart. Even Zach saw the writing on the wall and jumped into a better situation. Meanwhile, the Rangers window is rapidly closing and the cap has caught up to their roster.

7 years? Cory will likely suffer the same fate as Lundqvist. Sure, they'll get paid but they won't sniff the hardware. I'm shocked he signed that length with so many huge question marks going forward. Shocked. I guess he really drank the Kool Aid along with the deep pocket reputation of those 2.

Holy Negative Nancy, batman. :shakehead

How many years would you have given Cory....or rather, what OTHER Goaltender would you have gone after since there's no way in hell that Cory would've accepted anything less than 7 years? I'd love to hear what you would've done.... :sarcasm:

How did I know that you would be the one to pout over this?

I'm not questioning the Devils side. I'm questioning why Schneider would commit to a potential train wreck for 7 years.

Seriously dude?

They just signed a franchise goalie for a long time and you're complaining?

They have defensemen up the wazoo in the organization. Did you see the contracts Washington handed out? You don't think Lou has another heist in mind by trading one of them for a forward or two

Maybe, and this is venturing into crazy territory here, Cory doesn't think the future is as bleak as you think it is?

You're trying to comprehend and reason with a guy who claims the Islanders are the third deepest organization in the league.

The fact that he wasn't overpaid shows that Cory actually WANTED to be here, unlike a certain homegrown player from a couple years ago. :shakehead

He is awful. As someone else said, DAT JOURNALISM!!!!

His lame questions are hilarious though.

Edit: Have to love Cory. "Mr. Lamorello". Already got the David Clarkson respect going. Like his comments about liking our signings and that the kids will get to play because they can become "special" players.

Chere really is a dork and sounds like he is in an echo chamber or something.

Here is what Pete has to say about it.

"This guy more than anybody in the organization and maybe in the League deserves that opportunity," DeBoer told Northjersey.com on Tuesday. "He's waited for the opportunity. He's done all the right things. I'm really looking forward [to] the level he can get to playing 60, 65 games."

"I don't have any doubt he's going to thrive with that type of workload," DeBoer said.

Good job lou, get this contract stuff out of the way. People involved can focus on other things. Like being ready for the season.

Cory is going to become a millionaire and gets a starting job. What else could he ask for? In 7 years a lot can happen and Devils are not islanders or oilers, at least not atm. If you get paid that much money, shouldnt really matter what your team is.

Honestly, I am ecstatic with the signing - but with a touch of reality.

I don't think Schneider is really all his SV% cracks him up to be, but he will be a solid goalie for a full regular season, and we might see some big game jitters if we make the playoffs. I think if he gets a good goalie coach (come on, Terreri) works HARD on his skating, and improves his mental aspects of the game, rebound control, puck handling and communication with the Dmen, we'll see a very good goaltender who steals some games, costs us some others, but overall stays in the top third of goalies in the league.

I think the defense in front of him is going to shine, and a few of our prospects will surprise, and we'll get some decent talent through trades of our stock of dmen.

I think we'll be a bubble playoff team over his tenure and maybe have a mini run - but it isn't going to be because of him or in spite of him - but more because Larsson, Gelinas, Severson, Santini and Merrill take the next step... OR not.

Then why didn't he give him this chance last year?

He has to now, he has no other option. But God damn do I hate DumBoer.

Well, there was this other guy that was the face of the franchise for almost two decades. It's not an easy thing to just bench a player like that. Thankfully we won't have that situation again.

This is great news. So glad we can keep him and use him to build towards our future. We will always be in a game because of Schneider. This pretty much ends any Marty talk which makes it bittersweet in my opinion.

I'd say Lundqvist was prettyyyy close to the hardware this year....

Zach jumped ship because

A) he got $100 million dollars and
B) he went home to play with his butt buddy

How come Lou didn't sign him to a one year deal and then wait for it to expire to negotiate seriously? That strategy is GOLD

El. Oh. El.

Great. Just call him Cory CENA.

You mean Cory is what's BEST....FOR BUSINESS.

Time for some Sweet Chin Music!

I wonder why they didn't give the 8th year on the extension. I know he has another year on the current deal, but I thought they would have given it to him. Absolutely terrific news though. This makes the team look better to free agents, whether from the outside or our own UFAs/RFAs.

Umm Lundqvist is going to be a HoFer. I think everyone should be thrilled if he plays like Lundqvist over the next 7 years.

I think the issue isn't what Cory is drinking but what you are drinking. I have never seen someone talk about a team's future being so dark with such certainty.
