I agree MacDermid has value in this very specific situation: up multiple goals against a team that has an interest in "sending a message" for the next matchup. It's pretty much a staged fight opportunity.

Personally, I see the value that the Dillon type of fight had / has, but still think it should be eliminated from the game.

Dano's talked about watching a guy on your team get punched in the head for you and how that forces the team to raise their intensity level. Basically, "if Dillon's willing to do that, what am I doing?" I think that's a real thing. I even think that having MacDermid on the team has value today. It shows the other players how much physicality is valued. MacDermid is getting ice over higher skilled players because he does something management values. I think if you're Bastian or Mercer, that gets your attention. It tells you that the coach might give you ice time because you made the big hit or because you stood up for your teammates, and not just if you can make the fancy handle.

But, having said all that, fights are not ok. Knowing what we do about brain injuries, there's no excuse for allowing this stuff. There are other ways to show commitment to the team then getting beaten to a pulp (or trying to scramble someone else's brains, to mix food metaphors).
I agree. The league is to blame for the perpetuation of needless fighting which is exacerbated by the league's stubborn refusal to eliminate cheap shots from the game. That's what underpins my rants about sociopaths. How the league doesn't see this is beyond me. At some point they will face some lawsuits and then all of a sudden they will care about the players. Of course, why the NHLPA doesn't care about the players is also beyond me. Do they think taking the cheap shots out of the game will somehow make a team fold and reduce their membership?

They literally have a former goon as the head of the dops. Of course nothing is going to change

If the NHLPA wanted change they'd get change. Parros is a symptom though, not a cause. He's just doing what they ask him to do. The idiots in charge put Parros there knowing what they'd get.

I like a lot of what I’ve seen from Mercer this season. Wish he had more of a shooters mentality at times but he’s clearly making a difference out there. Had to laugh when I saw someone saying we need to trade him last night during the game.

The overreaction fairy made a visit when he got stoned on his break away

Hot Icing Action! You know you want it!

2nd Period

IMG_0332.jpeg

#1 Icing (NJD)
Palat-Jack-Mercer
Dillon-Dougie
vs
Rodrigues-Boqvist-Tkachuk
Balinskis-Schmidt
Note: Jack (1) - A not fresh Jack line was mid-change vs a fresh Florida line. This was Jack’s longest shift of the game, he was out 1:18 of a 1:39 shift.
Settle in for a lot of Jack icings folks.

#2 Icing (NJD)
McPunchyFace-Dowling-Tuna
Sieg-Kovy
vs
Greer-Barkov-Gadjovich
Mikkola-Kulikov
Note: 4th line (1) - FYI Our 4th line is bad and ices the puck a lot.

#3 Icing (NJD)
Palat-Jack-Bratt
Dillon-Dougie
vs
Luostarinen-Lundell-Samoskevich
Forsling-Ekblad
Note: Jack (2)

IMG_0333.jpeg

Icing #4 (NJD)
Meier-Hughes-Noesen
Luke-Pesce
vs
Luostarinen-Lundell-Samoskevich
Mikkola-Kulikov
Note: Jack (3) - Hughes had already been on the ice for 1:29 of 1:35 shift here.

Icing #5 (NJD)
McPunchyFace-Dowling-Tuna
Sieg-Luke
vs
Rodrigues-Boqvist-Tkachuk
Ekblad-Schmidt
Note: 4th line (2)

Icing #6 (NJD)
McPunchyFace-Dowling-Noesen
Luke-Pesce
vs
Rodrigues-Boqvist-Samoskevich
Mikkola-Kulikov
Note: 4th line (3) - 2 players got off before the other 3 got pinned again

3rd Period

IMG_0336.jpeg

Icing #7 (NJD)
Cotter-Hughes-Mercer
Sieg-Kovy
vs
Reinhart-Barkov-Verhaeghe
Balinskis-Schmidt
Note: Jack (4) - Palat & Bratt had gotten off for the line change
Barkov was dominant defensively vs our entire team, I’m surprised he wasn’t on the ice more for the icing.
Because you need even more useless information
IMG_0340.png

Icing #8 (NJD)
Meier-Nico-Noesen
Sieg-Kovy
vs
Reinhart-Barkov-Verhaeghe
Balinskis-Schmidt
Note: Nico (1) Oh no, not you too Nico!

Icing #9 (FLA)
Meier-Nico-Bratt
Sieg-Kovy
vs
Reinhart-Barkov-Verhaeghe
Balinskis-Schmidt
Note: Florida got an icing? In this economy?

IMG_0337.jpeg

Icing #10 (NJD)
Meier-Nico-Noesen
Sieg-Kovy
vs
Rodrigues-Boqvist-Tkachuk
Balinskis-Schmidt
Note: Nico (2)

IMG_0339.jpeg

Icing #11 (FLA)
Palat-Hughes-Bratt
Sieg-Kovy
vs
Rodrigues-Boqvist-Samoskevich
Kulikov-Schmidt
Note: Jack turns the tables! Bratt was on the ice the two times FLA iced the puck and only once when we did.

Icing #12 (NJD)
Cotter-Haula-Mercer
Luke-Pesce
vs
Lundell-Barkov-Reinhart-Verhaeghe
Tkachuk-Balinskis
Note: Some talent on the ice w/ the goalie pulled.

Meier-Nico-Noesen
Sieg-Kovy
vs
Lundell-Barkov-Reinhart-Verhaeghe
Tkachuk-Balinskis

It definitely felt like we were getting caved in for the first half of the game. I felt like we were lucky it was only tied halfway through the 2nd and we easily could have been down 4-1.

But they played bend-don't-break and got some timely scoring when they needed it, two things we really failed to do at all under Lindy. The stars all showed up, the role players played their role, and we got saves from Markstrom when we needed it.

REALLY strong win to build off of after a disappointing result against SJ.

I popped in here during the second period when everyone was proclaiming this team a total fraud. Hilarious that they won the game by three goals.

That Bratt pass was legendary…holy moly.
I was definitely one of the culprits who called them out in the second period. To be fair, they were playing bad hockey for like half the game. But man, when they picked it up after the Panthers’ first goal, they were playing some very good hockey and matching the Panthers’ intensity and pace. Panthers aren’t an easy team to play against.

At first glance in the replay, I thought that perhaps the puck may have grazed Dougie's stick which would've made him a friggin' Vulture in stealing the Primary assist.

Thankfully, the scorekeeper knew better.

I'm surprised Bob hasn't been picked up by an NHL team.

And I just now thought of something and I hate to say it.....What if he's Sam Rosen's replacement for the Rangers next year?

It'll probably be Kenny Albert, assuming he's still their radio PBP guy.

General consensus among Panthers fans is that “the Devils will never get close to the Cup, they don't score the right type of goals, the refs missed half a dozen blatant calls against them" etc.

So we must have done something right, lmao
We don't score the right type of goals?

What the f*** does that even mean?

It was too hard to tell who was tripped or just falling over with how bad the ice was in the end we defended for the 1st and 3rd periods. It may have been bad at the other end too, but guys were just getting tangled up and falling over and crashing into the boards over there.

I probably wouldn't have noticed if I was watching on TV. Only because I was sitting there did I notice this.

Devils score a goal and are Cup contenders. Other team scores a goal and the Devils are an ECHL team.

As old school of a scrap as I can recall. No time to collect your thoughts, just chucking knucks.

Best Devils fight IMO was LeBlonde vs Janseen

This is up there though

listen they're Panthers fans. They barely know what a puck is.

I got to watch last night and I thought the shots were completely misleading if someone didn't see the game. I the the Devils had the more dangerous opportunities all night. At one point early in the first the shots were something like 10-3 and those 3 shots were all serious scoring chances ...shots don't always tell the whole story.

I got to watch it in a bar in Kansas. You had to see the bartenders face when I asked her to put the devils on. She said what sport is that? Lol.

No good fishing for me in Kansas, this was bowhunting. I'm done now. I filled my tag on Sunday. I'm just hanging out for a while cause I have the Airbnb for another week. Thinking of heading down to Fort Worth for a few days tomorrow.
