It looked like a bunch of hesitancy was unlocked when Matthews went down. Even the interviews were team focused in a way I hadn't seen since Quinn's time here.

I'm not saying you move Matthews...But...something's definitely up with our dynamic. And note: Marner looked fantastic during that time -- like pre-big money Marner fantastic.

Matthews doesn't have that dawg in him, simple as that. He's not a gamer like Sidney Crosby, Nate MacKinnon or Kucherov. You will never win anything with this guy as your "go to". He is this era's Joe Thornton, which is amusing since he was "mentored" by him.
