I never liked Dougie, to be clear. His memes, funny videos, etc never landed with me because I dislike him that much, it's bad. Again, he's one of the most selfish players I've seen this organization tolerate. I also found great pride clowning the Siegenthaler-Dougie pairing back in 2023. Some people thought they were a championship pairing in 2024? 🤡 I've had to discuss this pairing with free-website-statisticians, and I just gave up.

People forget we were leaking 2 on 1s well before Dougie was hurt in 2024.

On Palat, I totally agree, a few goals fom him are always appreciated. He works too hard for me to 'hate' him, he's The Little Engine That Could.
Can you elaborate on why you feel this way?

I really don't know why, but Dougie rubs some people the wrong way. Let's not forget the whole "museum" line of BS that followed him out the door from Calgary. I think it's that attitude that gives people the false impression that he's not serious and doesn't care. Obviously not true. He's a great locker room guy and he's having a lot of fun here, in a way that he hasn't in Boston, Calgary, or Carolina.

A lot of that applied to PK Subban too, but the difference is that Dougie still has something to offer on the ice.

I think a lot of the Subban hate was wildly undeserved.

I think he was a decent defenseman still, until probably his last year. He was pretty bad by that point. Not completely terrible, but nothing particularly good in his last year.

I thought he was alright to solid when he first arrived, he just didn't produce offense anymore and wasn't at all explosive like he used to be.

To give PK some credit, he was decent his last year with us. Certainly Dougie is much better now than PK that year. But I didn't hate PK's overall play for his last year (he was just way overpaid for it).

Definitely not impressed or overly happy about the skaters' performance, but a win is a win. Markstrom absolutely stole that game, it would have been at least 5ga without him. Would have enjoyed his performance a lot more had the rest of the team not sucked for the past few games. The losing streak needed to be ended and hopefully they can now relax and give their best against the rags.

Also would have been a 5ga game without a Grubauer for the Kraken

Did people hate Subban? I think it was more along the lines of both he and the team played well below expectations. Criticism was everywhere.

Even Dougie, there are a few guys ripping him, and there are some who want to trade him (at some point) because of his contract + the young RHD in the pipeline, but for the most part I think people appreciate what Dougie brings.

Kind of to my point above, or better put the inverse to my point, his last year here(and in the league), expectations were extremely low. So we were OK with decent.

This is the only reason this game was won.

Markstrom needed to go Full Hasek.

And what is up with Cotter scoring seemingly every game? lol

Anyway, nice to see our Non-Stars get key goals but man....our Stars are ICE-COLD right now.

They just can't buy one.

Maybe, but Grubauer is a terrible goalie. Not every team can have a great goalie performance against us, at some point you have to question whether it's the Devils running into a hot goalie or the Devils making goalies seemingly great. We really don't have any snipers in our team, we have playmakers twoway grinders and volume shooters. We have plenty of great scoring chances but a lot of those shots go directly into the goalie. When we finally score it's a great shot like the Palat goal straight into the top corner, they just can't replicate those shots at will. The Hughes bros have tried those goal line / behind the net goalie mask shots all season, but I don't think they've scored a single one this season.

Some people don’t seem to believe it’s possible that a team’s ability to generate chances isn’t equal to their ability to actually score.

Is that suppose to impress us? So out of the top contending teams we're among the worst. Also a more accurate stat would be goals/shots or goals/hdc. And are we gonna ignore the fact that they are 1.8g/gp during this recent losing streak or that they lead the league in getting shutout. I hope they get back to scoring 4-5 goals / game, but if that doesn't happen I think they should really go after Brock Nelson or Palms or even both.

I mean, yes, the Devils are the 8th best team at scoring goals this season. That is good.

“Impressive” is a subjective word but I think it’s silly if we are going to hand wring over the Devils scoring but would be happy with say the Oilers scoring when it works out to 9 more goals over the entire season.

Also, measuring a team by their worst stretch is as silly as measuring them by their best stretch; their true talent will be somewhere in-between.

This seems like an overreaction. 8th in the league in goals scored per game is good. Top 1/4 of the league.

No team scores 4-5 goals per game, as evidenced by the chart above. This is also while allowing the 3rd least goals against per game.

They are generating chances and driving play at a high level per the advanced stats. They aren't going to finish horribly forever if they continue to do that, while still remaining defensively stout. They've gotten away from the defensive part a bit in this skid, and Keefe has made that well known. I don't foresee this being the case long term. Fitz has also made it clear that he expects more production to support the top guys, so I expect him to address it at the deadline if not sooner.

Goals Forced Per Game:

23-24 Panthers were 8th

22-23 Knights were 14th

18-19 Blues were 15th

17-18 Capitals were 9th

14-15 Hawks were 17th!!

I guess none of them won the cup…

And I also gaurantee all these teams had streaks of under 2 goals a game. I would also put money down that the offensive dynamos of Colorado Pittsburgh and Tampa had similar goal droughts in their cup winning seasons. Some folks act like all these things only happens to the Devils every season. It’s just always odd.

a lot of ppl definitely hated him, maybe not so much on here but on social media although they're the same mouth breathers who bitch about the social media interns posting about Pride night and whatever other theme nights.
