I didn’t realize we were that bad. It felt like we were one of the worst teams in the league with them in recent years, so maybe having that many this early in the year feels like a lot.

I think it’s a little of both, he wasn’t as good as this game card suggests but people are also hyper critical of him now.

For example, the Marky save with the stick where a Kraken was all alone in front, nobody blaming a defenseman but the play where Markstrom makes the laying on the ice glove save Hamilton is mentioned repeatedly even though he was attempting to cover 2 guys while 2 other Devils were covering nobody in the zone.

It’s a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy for Hamilton right now. Some people expect to see mistakes from him so they see and remember them all but don’t remember other mistakes that also happen in the game.

Dougie was noticeably atrocious, all night. Markstrom made a spectacular save to bail him out……. three times.

even after that Detroit clunker early on, he is accountable and wants to keep competing. I feel like this will be a great mindset for playoff hockey.

I think expected goals are particularly bad on shots from really in tight on the goalie.

Some/most will struggle differentiating a hopeless stuff into a goalies pad with a shot from the same spot into an almost open net.

Moneypuck also had it as 1.03 after 2 periods.

Looks like they ended the night having it at 2.45 for Seattle.

The only thing I can think of that may influence this, even though it probably doesn’t. Seattle aren’t very good or skilled. So I’m sure they have a lower expected goals that most teams.

Nah, in small samples, sure, but those cards actually get the game right a lot of the time. He does indeed drive a lot of offense, he had a handful of rushes tonight that resulted in chances (and the Palat goal). More importantly, the Devils do a great job of limiting mistakes this season. Years past all mistakes would be a chance or a shot but now they are able to recover when they do make a mistake and that no longer shows on these cards because it doesn’t end up being a shot or chance against all the time.
