Because the top 6 did their part tonight?
I agree with this but the top 6 has done their job for the last month+. The bottom rarely has shown up.

3 guys can be the best point producers on the team, but they can't be the only point producers on the team.

Mercer is the only decent piece on the bottom 6.

If it involves and upgrade over gun, i would, but yes he is the only decent piece. But he is as mediocre in scoring as the rest of em. He is not moving the needle down there.

He's facing weak competition and still not producing. You can at least reason our top lines are facing the toughest matchups and sometimes get shutdown.

Tonight they did score but the refs took it away on a shady review response.

(And Happy New Year)

We're getting NOTHING from Haula, Cotter, Mercer we're getting a little from but those two he's stapled to are useless.

We're getting nothing from the 4th line, but let's worry about the 3rd first.

And last but not least, we're getting nothing from the backup goalie.

In his defense, we've been shutout in 2 of these games on his 0-5-0 stretch, but he's SUNK us in some of the losses where we haven't been shutout in. Especially that Columbus game. And he imploded against Carolina. And he let in another stinker in the dying minutes of this one. Not that it mattered, we were probably getting shutout anyway.

Scoring depth has been an issue all season. It's just been masked by the Big Three, the PP, and Cotter being hot at the start of the season. Not that surprising that with him reverting to form and Haula likely going through some age regression that more would fall on the big guns shoulders. As good as they can be if you can contain them, there's not a whole lot behind them to worry about, especially since Mercer doesn't seem like he's going to take a step.

I'm okay with moving on from any one from the bottom 6. Mercer included (if the piece is solid)

Mercer is the only decent piece on the bottom 6.
Agree with both of these.

I'm not convinced he's a core player or a long term guy here, but can you really be mad at him for not producing when he's playing with a guy that's currently I think on a 16 game pointless drought and another guy that just came off a 14 or 15 game pointless drought and like a close to 20 goalless drought?

He's on pace for close to 40 points. Those other guys are on pace for.....I'd have to look at Cotter, but Haula is on pace for 22 points I think.

If anyone saw Fitz’ presser from a few weeks ago, you could hear the displeasure in his voice when talking about several guys that need to give them more. I’m sure he was talking about Haula, Cotter and Mercer. Someone mentioned it earlier that the bottom six ineptitude is like the elephant in the room. It may not be directly said and names may not be mentioned but it’s obvious. Fitz will get us some reinforcements but it’s going to be excruciating continuing to sit through such anemic play from the bottom six.

You need secondary scoring in the playoffs. As great as the top two lines are, others have to supplement them by chipping in. It’s our glaring weakness.

Sharks are a must win, because how many humpty bottom-2 or 3 teams are you gonna lose to on this trip? I'd say Seattle would be close to it as well.

The Anaheim game is the most painful. You knew LA was better and the best team on the trip (other than Carolina), you knew we probably weren't getting much from an Allen game. But to lose just one point last night when it was tied with under 4 minutes left in regulation is really what hurts and makes this loss and losing streak completely suck right now.

Thankfully we have some prospects and picks to dangle for bottom 6 help.
Not just bottom 6 help, help in general....

Hope the team fights through it... they can do it, but gotta turn this around asap. I believe the cusion a couple of years ago was a big reason why we made the playoffs when we went into a losing streak...can't let it go on much longer. Must stop the bleeding.

Really surprised how many times we've gotten shut out when Fitz said scoring wasn't the issue with the team previously.

The reigning Stanley Cup winners have been shutout 4 times in the last month. It happens.
I don’t think Florida is as strong this year, so I’m not sure this is comforting in the slightest.

It’s not just the shutouts. There have been numerous games where they’ve been goalied by JAGs. Huge stretches where they can’t score for a couple of periods at a time. Bottom six generating at the rate of a lottery team. Top six players who even when they are in the cooler choose to pass up slot opportunities regularly.

This isn’t going to cut it…Washington or Carolina will dispatch this team easily. It’s obvious what opponents are doing…they are sitting back allowing the devils to have as much possession as they want, putting heavy pressure down low on the forwards knowing we have no real offensive threats on D other than Luke. Our bottom six can’t even generate shots, the top six does by virtue of their individual skill but half the time they choose to pass up perfectly good slot chances. Dougie has disappeared and may be on the decline, and Luke still hasn’t figured out how to get quality shots on net even though he’s there breaking ankles.

This is exactly what will transpire in the playoffs if something doesn’t change between now and then.

Nah it's quite literally just bottom 6 help.

We also had a better record the last 41 than the first 41 2 years ago.

I have no issue with the top 6 and the defense personally.
