GDT: Devils @ Hurricanes 7PM, MSGSN - Dano Loves You

I was a critic of Bahl the previous few games but if he can play like that going forward then it's fine for him to be with Nemec. I hope Hattaka stays in the lineup even with Smith back tho.

Games like this would be much easier to swallow if they were able to force other games this season into OT but at this point they really need to get at the very least point streaks going. They haven't had two straight games with points since Jan 11-Jan 13 (1-0-1) and a win streak since Jan 3rd-Jan 5th (2 games). But bodies are back now so maybe they can pull it off

I feel like the problem with Bahl is that he never consistently shows that physicality we saw tonight, and he he makes a lot of poor plays with the puck.

I think he's a fine third pairing type, but fairly interchangeable with a lot of guys at this point.

Even the “injuries, rookies, and goaltending” things I think are overblown. The 2 star rookie D are the 2 best D on the team. Hatakka has looked good. Holtz isn’t technically a rookie anymore but he consistently looks f***ing great and like one of the best forwards in the team. I don’t think the injuries are as big of a deal as people make it out to be. I think those are crutch excuses and a f*** ton of copium to try and make sense of them falling so far below expectations. The goaltending is below average but not nearly as bad as they make them look. Carolina gets shit goaltending too and they actually play defense. Look at where they are and where we are. They’re a good team. We’re simply not a good team
Disagree, especially with the injuries. Almost every single one of our top players has missed significant amounts of time. I do agree that it’s not entirely injuries though.

I think the team isn’t clicking this year. I think the coaching isn’t optimal at all, and they need a championship caliber coach. I think they need better goaltending. I think they need to grow from this.

I don’t think the team is good this year. I think this roster should be a whole lot better than this though, and I think it’ll be next year, especially with a new voice behind the bench that brings a disciplined brand of hockey.

Yeah and a few more losses before the trade deadline basically ends this season anyway. Firing Lindy after one more bad week would then have the same effect as firing him in the offseason would and not do jack for this year.

They're actually in the middle of the road of man games lost from what I saw, it's just the caliber of players getting hurt and this dweeb of a coaching staff being too hard headed to change anything.

I'm mad about Brunette because I wanted us to just let him be head coach last year and wave goodbye to Lindy.

And by last year I mean 2022-2023. Lindy is lucky he lasted that long.

Really, this year needs to end like the end of an episode of Dragnet (the sound clips tonight before penalties got me thinking of it). Where it shows all the criminals in the lineup and explains what happened to them lol.

Lindy, Rogalski, Vitek, all pink slipped.

These "system changes" is basically the substitute coaching change.

This has to work or they are proper cooked.

Just frustrating because they aren’t completely buried but it feels like that even with all the injuries can’t help to think this was ruff shooting the team in the foot coaching wise with the following

Starting vitek more than he should
Refusing to play Meier at RW in the top 6
Refusing to play higher than the fourth line
Refusing to adjust and adapt the system to the players you have avaible
Playing Mercer continuously at center
Bingo balling lines to form no real chemistry

I really wish they would have lost this game in regulation if they were going to lose....
We're still hanging on for dear life, but I'll admit, if we only miss the playoffs anyway, whatever gives us changes after this year.

And some ''Structured'' 1-0 OT loss with a highly underachieving goalie (who the coach lost his f***in mind to even give this game anyway) playing his best game of the season in junk time after he flushed us a while ago, along with the staff looking ''Smart'' would piss me off.

Would they be better without the injuries? Sure. Do I think they’ve had anywhere near the impact people are saying? Definitely not. Dougie’s a big loss but on the other hand it takes Nemec a lot longer to crack the lineup if Dougie stays healthy so in reality it’s not as big of a loss as it’s made out to be. Siegs sucked this year when healthy anyway. Timo definitely got worse after the injury but I said he sucked before the injury as well. Jack obviously hurt but he looked like shit for a solid month before the recent injury anyway.

The injuries dampened things slightly but in no way are they the reason this team looks as bad as they do

This team's rush game also looks compromised.

Is that the loss of speed? Or loss of Brunette?

Let's be honest, the rush game didn't look all that great in 21-22 either, but it also wasn't bad.

It was a whole different level last year.

I'm gonna go out and collect my thoughts on a golf cart ride.......

yeah some of the net front battles you feel like he should be able to force his will but it just wasn't there. maybe there's some GM out there willing to pay for him based on his size profile/his skating for his size and the fact that's he's an NHL regular now -- I wouldn't mind that then since I think Hattaka can fill that role as the 3rd pairing on the left side with the Devils already having Hughes and Siegenthaler for the other two pairs.

They were a top rush team in 21-22 and this team they have been too. They at least were earlier. Maybe they’ve fallen down recently after I tuned out quite a bit. Last year was better but I don’t think it’s some transformative thing

So, the rebuild is toast? The roster that’s constructed will just be garbage? What are the reasons? What are the solutions?

Burnette isn't doing that well in Nashville. Is the argument that our team is uniquely built for him to succeed when he isn't succeeding as a HC somewhere else?

You would think the Preds were on their way to winning the president's trophy

Well their best rush player has been playing injured since Nevember. Another guy who was supposed be a rush guy has been dealing with a lower body the entire year as well.

They also made a trade for a scorer who I think would help the board play, but he is slow as hell and hasn’t helped the board play.

Plus the assistant coach change. I’m sure some counter productive adjustments happened after the slow defensive start.

Nashville's ALWAYS been a playoff bubble team or plus, Brunette (just like Hynes before him) isn't doing anything that organization hasn't already historically done for decades.

Considering their top forwards are foresberg, decrepit ROR and Gustav myquist. I would say he’s doing pretty well

We aren't doing tank talk in GDTs. That includes rooting for Ls to cause a coaching change.

I was absolutely not rooting for them to lose. The ideal outcome is a win. If they are going to lose, losing in regulation is significantly more beneficial than losing in OT, which is the worst outcome.

Definitely has to do with their roster, they have literally next that jumps out on the page on the forward side and he has them competing for the West bubble.
