Was a very different world. Mainly 2.67 goals per game vs well over 3 for the last 3 years as a league average.

This league today and the last few years is more about scoring goals than has been in 30 years.
Meh this just sounds like an after-the-fact rationalization. It’s especially ironic given that the main reason Marty was getting more wins that season was because the team was scoring more when he played.

Marty was a different era. It's just not the same... nobody is pitching under 2 goals against with 10 shutouts....it's a different league.

It's not rationalization, it's just fact ....those years there were 15 goalies with a .910 or better. That's not the world we live in today

Look at the league numbers yourself.

Ya, zero shot attempts actually, and it's not about dumping on him, but we do need Bratt to figure out Carolina/tough physical playoff type games.
Bratt has played more physical this year, which I appreciate. He also has 2 goals and 7 points in 4 games against the Hurricanes this year (3 of those points were on the PP, but I still think the point stands). He’s doing better against tougher opponents, and he’s been producing against the Canes.

Again this is post-hoc rationalization. Marty was not posting great goalie numbers in 2014, that was not the reason he was getting wins and the other guy wasn’t. I can almost guarantee that if it was Cory Schneider in net for the devils last night you’d suddenly be on the side of blaming the goaltending. And this is coming from someone who didn’t like Cory all that much and who agrees with your general view of modern goaltending.

To me, last night was a perfect example of the problem we have when our big guns are shut down. That bottom level scoring just isn't there.

Yeah Cotter got one....but ..

Shots on goal:

Noesen 0
Haula 0
Lazar 0
Tatar 0
Mercer 0
Cotter 1
Bastian 2

That game was a glimmer of what we'll see in the playoffs. And our bottom 6 as is is not up to the task.

This was the exact kind of game where they have to pick it up and provide some relief to our big guns and for the most part they were a no show.
Does Fitz pick up the phone? Or don't panic wait until the deadline?

Very strange that I can show you hard evidence of a significantly different environment...but you want to stick with the ulterior motive point of view. Don't know what to say to that :dunno:

The Devils are pretty much locked into the 2/3 in the metro at this point. No reason to rush a panic trade, especially with the 4 Nations tournament eating up a chunk of February with no games.

They absolutely need to address the bottom 6 at the deadline though.

Yup. I think Fitz even mentioned it lately. He’s gonna bring in some reinforcements.

Here's my beef :

If an NHL Player FAKES an injury that leads to a 5-minute major and he's back out on the ice for a shift, that player automatically should get ejected from the game and the team get called for a 2-minute bench minor for "unsportsmanlike conduct" for allowing him to get back out on the ice.

I'd amp it up. If a major is called from such an act, that player can't come back to the game at all or else that team gets a 5 min major, and that player gets a suspension.

Yes it's harsh but it should be. That kind of behavior should not be tolerated

But it will be, cuz this league is trash

So mad for various reasons listed by you guys. But most of all if Necas indeed faked that injury, I've lost all respect for him. Well what goes around comes around..

I don't think he straight up faked it, just overexaggerated. Kind of like if you get the wind knocked out of you, you still can't breathe for a couple seconds and it's not that bad, but you sure can make it look like you're dying.

I think there should be supplemental discipline on Necas.

1. Meier led with shoulder and never wavered on the hit
2. Necas moved to get out of the way and put his knee right in the path
3. Necas faked injury in such a manner that even soccer players are aghast.

You can't even remotely say this on the main board because there are so many stupid goofs over there it's amazing. It's not surprising given how many of them have never even played a real game of hockey in their lives.

Maybe if Allen could keep it under 3 (and he only seems to do that when it’s under 20 shots) or win a game in the last month, which he doesn’t do because he has an .860% and 4 GAA in that time, people would be more forgiving of his play in last night’s game.

I’m usually quick to blame Rogalski, but I’m giving him no credit for Markstrom and no shit for Jake Allen.

Jake Allen is pretty much playing like Jake Allen this year. He’s never been able to put it together annd that’s why he won a cup from the bench in a year where he was the starter going into it.

And now he’s 34.

No suspension for the hit causing the fake injury

Cause it was clean ....funny dropped on Canes board they are claiming he led with his elbow

Don't you think though that it could have been a lot worse earlier in the game had Allen not made big saves? Or do you think he really was that bad? Imo I thought he stopped some quality shots

He did the same thing against Washington earlier in the game too. And he imploded late in that one. Same thing.

I don’t think anything other than he’s been horrible in his last 4 starts. 0 wins for one of the tops teams in the East. The same team that’s went 9-0-1 when he’s not in net since his 0-4-0 .860% run started. There’s no dressing Allen up right now.

He’s literally been the Jonas Johansson to Markstrom’s Vasilevskiy or Shesterkin’s Georgiev lol.

The majority of them are morons who never played the game in their life or are former Rangers fans who still break out their Rangers jerseys when they come to town even though they are Carolina season ticket holders now so that group is even 2x as stupid as the average Canes fan.
