Here's my beef :

If an NHL Player FAKES an injury that leads to a 5-minute major and he's back out on the ice for a shift, that player automatically should get ejected from the game and the team get called for a 2-minute bench minor for "unsportsmanlike conduct" for allowing him to get back out on the ice.

Devils would smoke this clown show organization in a playoff series.

Zero threat from these soft divers. Rod the Bod could whine all day long - this Devils team would take care of business.

Or maybe the refs could do their damn job and call embellishment on them, I can't remember the last time Carolina has been dinged for one of those in the playoffs. They'd automatically stop if they did. Dougie got called for it in the Rangers game and he got speared in the nuts

MLS does this to try to stop players from faking...

"If a player with a suspected injury remains on the ground for more than 15 seconds, the referee will stop play and wave the medical crew onto the field to evaluate the player. When safe, the player will be removed from the field and remain off the field for a minimum of two minutes for further assessment and treatment.

Exceptions to the Off-Field Treatment Rule include instances of potential head injury, goalkeeper injuries, serious medical events, and fouls resulting in yellow or red cards"

The second was A LOT worse than the first.

And again, he has a penchant lately when he plays (thank god he doesn't often, only 3 games in the month of December and fourth to last was on November 30th, 0-4-0 in those games) for giving away games late after starting off strong, but imploding late in the 2nd or by the 3rd.

He did that in the Washington game where we were also outplayed.
I meant the 2nd goal. My bad lol.

the 2nd was one of the worst goals any goalie has given up this year for us

it went right through him
I meant 2nd goal. My bad , that was a terrible miscue. I was at work haha.

But in general, I don't mind seeing the rough, borderline stuff from us. This is what it will take given how the league operates.

I'd love to add one more player with a nasty streak and some goal scoring ability. I don't think that guy is out there this deadline, though.

So mad for various reasons listed by you guys. But most of all if Necas indeed faked that injury, I've lost all respect for him. Well what goes around comes around..

I’m not inclined to say that Necas was faking anything, I’m sure it hurt like hell in the moment. But I certainly think the argument holds water that the officials made their decision based on the end result, which I don’t like at all. The game is played far too fast to slow these hits down frame by frame and expect to get the answer. It’s clear as day that Timo had him lined up for a clean hit, and with Necas trying to avoid it late, it ended up being the knee as the primary contact point.

There has to be some onus on the player being hit at a certain point. And the fact we played another 10-15 seconds with possession shows the refs thought it was clean in real time. Imagine if Noesen scored on his shot. Would this all still have happened? Bet it wouldn’t have.

You can’t win them all, especially against a good team with a great home record. Did the referees suck, yes they did but that’s not why we lost. We definitely need a tweak at forward. Until then this is the team we have, which is pretty good.

I'll wait until we prove we can win a game in PNC and a playoff series against that organization before I ever say that we would smoke them. It's a house of horrors, going back to Kevin Weekes owning us in 2002 and Marty flipping out in 2009.

The current Devils don't control play against them consistently enough for me to act like the Devils are vastly superior and the bottom 6 needs substantial upgrades before I have any confidence against Carolina.

The Devils and Canes are both in the top 5 contenders in the league and unfortunately one will be out after the first round. That series is a coin flip to me.

I've long thought that when a call is made due to apparent injury (most notably on 4 minute high sticking penalties, but also on certain major penalties), that player should be ineligible to play on the resulting power play. The increased penalty is often to compensate for the perceived loss of the player.

Just a sham of officiating overall last night. Complete and total. The Blues game was worse, but this game was awfully officiated. Necas will have to watch out whenever he plays the Devils next, and for a very long time.

You don't allow a team to go 5 periods without a penalty against in a back to back game. The referees were stubborn, mismanaged the game and this is the result. What happens next is they call questionable penalties to even it up.

This game really got under my skin. If that major was a kneeing penalty Timo Meier would be sitting out a few games and fined. It wasn't a deliberate knee and this is why you hear nothing but crickets today. And then to give Haula a match penalty for getting mugged out of nowhere?? Insanity.

Devils are better, their goals were better, their play was better, and they can beat the Hurricanes in the playoffs.

We were not at our sharpest in either of the two games - the holidays and also the backwash of the successful homestand and the Rangers win - I think it was the inevitable trough after the wave.

And still we nearly swept them. I loved our physicality after the entire Timo thing.

This will be a hell of a playoff series. And there’s going to be a lot to learn from the tape of these games. Adjustments to make.

Places to improve: our first shift after scoring (except for game 1 and our first tally) - Not let them shift momentum like they did in the 3d last night. Also our zone exits need to be crisper and cleaner. They overcommit to the pinch in your zone and you can blow around it. Finally we must keep working on our forecheck game. That’s where getting something out of the bottom 2 lines should come in.

Those bottom lines are where they will have a potential advantage in a series and where we will need to play in their end more. You’ve also got to watch out better for their defensemen coming in late and walking down the slot.

Game 1 was pretty even but looks like we were the better team, although it was close.

Game 2 they were the better team, even though we had some stretches where we were better. I kind of expected the 2nd game to be a tough one. They had their chances to win it. Then the major happened and the Canes ran with the game.

It would be a good series. I feel like we’re better equipped to deal with them than in 2023. The only game where I thought they truly overwhelmed us was the first game this season. The 3 last games were more even.

f*** those losers too. Hopefully they fold like a cheap suit in the first round again so they can stop pretending that their playoff impotence was a Keefe issue.
The playoff struggles started long before Keefe, with noted playoff coach and Stanley Cup winner Mike Babcock. It never has been a coaching issue in Toronto as far as I’m concerned.

Again, Jake Allen (probably) won’t be playing them in a playoff series. Jake Allen can’t beat anyone right now, nor hold it to fewer than 4 goals unless we keep it under 20 shots, which then he allows 3. He looks like he could bring Paul Kariya and Teemu Selanne back if we started him against the humpty Ducks.

And if all goes well for them the likes of Dustin Tokarski and Spencer Martin won’t be in their net in the playoffs either.

We went 2-1-0 against them with Markstrom, though one of those games was with Spencer Martin.

If I remember correctly, Markstrom played okay in his one loss against them, but it was a close game.

It will be interesting to see how they perform under the probably the league’s most overrated head coach in Berube.

All indications are that they are performing lesser under him, but were getting a Vezina caliber year out of Stolarz before he was hurt. Although they did have Matthews out for a while.
