I still can’t believe they had a 3-0 lead and one guy f***ed it….in an elimination game!

How many different ways can a team find to lose? Just insane.

I swear if this team were in Toronto or Vancouver the narrative wouldn’t be all that different from what those teams carry.
Thats ridiculous. Ofc its a bad loss to stomach, but like they battled, they jsut didnt have the troops.

None of those teams had to deal with the entire D core either out injured or playing hurt + their #1 C out.

If Nico ever gets slandered here in the near future, should be a permaban.

Guy not only produced but played the toughest minutes with corpses of line 2,3,4 being towed around.

The Biggest disappointment for me this series was Bratt. While he looked good in parts (and got some early points), he played an absolute perimeter game. I better hear he was dealing with something because he did not play soft in regular season, but somehow did it in the playoffs.

Meier was good and Palat "decent" relatively.

Did any of these f***ers at the presser even ask Keefe about the injured players? Guess we have to wait till cleanout day to get the actual updates :P

The only thing he said was, guys were banged up and Luke and Dillon they knew from game 1 that they were done for series.

Right now if the predictions are right, goaltending automatically gets worse because Daws is a clear downgrade from this year’s Allen and 34-35 year old Markstrom becomes 35-36 year old Markstrom. So if that’s the tandem for next year it’s not outlandish to think we see a repeat of 23-24. And who the hell is behind Daws? We could be seeing Jon Gillies back with the team if Markstrom is injured for long. Not the actual Jon Gillies, but someone like that.

The guys up front are another year older and probably another year more useless. And we all know what guys up front I’m talking about.

Steve Austin and his “I’ll never have a single 40 point season with the Devils!” And Mr “I had a 28 game point drought this year, by the way, did you see my Canes Suck bracelet?”.
Well might as well have Daws, Poulter or whomever as the backup if you aren't even going to give Markstrom the hook in a game like this in the playoffs. Granted he did rebound and 'justify' the decision but still, what's the point of a vet goalie backup when you allow the starter to completely railroad two straight games without a hook?

I legit give Bratt a pass. When you realize his linemates are dumb and dumber, I really dont think he was all that bad.

I dont think McDavid could create with Haula and Mercer stuck to him

I'm proud of the boys for battling like they did. With the injuries we had many predicted a sweep and if the PP hadn't gone cold as ice we could have taken this 6 or 7. Don't think in any scenario we could have beaten the Canes, but we fought hard.

Not going to blame Markstrom, he was good in this series. He let in a couple bad goals but he gave us a chance. Depth particularly down the middle is a problem. Nico must have had to take 60 faceoffs today, we need more reliable options.

Also felt Nemec was a major bright spot. Get rested and retool for next year. Still feel this organization is trending up.

I guess some of you are referring to teams that were good/playoff teams when talking about unlikeable. 2013-2014 is the one for me. Marty's husk getting wins in net vs. Cory busting his ass and getting no goal support. Michael Ryder becoming a ghost in the second half. Ryane Clowe predictably getting hurt immediately. Damien Brunner. Losing every single shootout seemingly. I'm sure I could go on.

In 2009–10 we had a hot start (41 GP 30-10-1 61 pts .744), and then sucked dead donkey dickey (41 GP 18-17-6 42 pts .512), before getting curb stomped by the Flyers in 5 games.

I don’t see how that team was somehow more likable than this one.

That team had a bit more benefit of the doubt. They made the playoffs plenty. This team just shat itself for 4 months before barely scrapping into the playoffs after what was supposed to be “an off year” in 2023-2024.

They were leading 3-0. Feels like it’s not being discussed enough lol.

3-0… after 1 period… in an elimination game.

HOOOOOWWWW?!?!?!?!?!?
The canes suck and are an overrated team of grinders that dive more than Tim Stutzle while also being simultaneously one of the dirtiest and most coddled teams in the league with a sentient steroid of a coach who looks like a tumor after removal.

It’s pathetic we lost this game thanks to our shitty goalie we pissed a 1st round pick away on.

Yeah i might be officially over Mercer

For me, Mercer never has a gear that looks like he is pushing hard. Everything is lackadaisical or passive. His coverage gaps on the PK, his fights for the puck on the half wall, the way he turns or stops/starts. It's always just passive to me.

It's not that he is bad, but he is so ineffective to get the extra edge to win an extra battle for possession. He just does his same pattern throughout the season.

Sucks but it's hard as a fan to give this guy another chance thinking "next year will be better" because now we said that for two seasons, nothing has changed.

Adding to that, they were seconds away from killing the penalty that carried over into the second period. That changed the entire game - one of the guys on TNT was saying in the first the devils can't let the crowd back on - he was on the money.

Improved scoring would have made this team much less frustrating to follow this year. When I see fans saying how much they have hated watching this team, I think that’s the key factor. It’s so thankless watching endless chances not finished.

Did I actually see a stat that we had only 2 comebacks from multi goal deficits all year to win games? Something like that. We were not a dangerous team offensively. Once down we were out.

Also we never did actually develop a sustained forecheck. Not good at a cycle game in any consistent way. We couldn’t dump the puck in and chase it successfully- never had guys who could be the first ones in to separate the defense from possession and as a proportion of our scoring, I think few teams in the league forechecked as poorly as we did.

That’s got to change and should be changeable.
