i've said this many o times last year. these guys are homegrown franchise cornerstone players too but its pretty incredible once jack goes down to just assume and probably be correct that this team will fold up and play dead. last year it was the coaching and goaltending this year what? there is enough top line talent on this team and defense and goaltending the team should still win enough to make the playoffs. will they?
Given how mid this team was with Jack Hughes for the past couple of months, I see no reason to think they're even going to make a wild card spot without him. He's responsible for 80% of their last 20-something goals. The team is like Carolina in that they have volume shooting but not quality shooting, and we don't have finishers. And speaking of the Canes, ever since that phantom Meier knee, they've crumbled mentally. All it takes is one incident for this Devils squad to completely lose their nerve and they never get it back.

yeah i would love a finisher on this team but then you read the msgs on here he cant skate he cant play defense hes too old. i dont care if he can score and put the puck in the net all the rest i dont care about

For all the shutouts we have this year, we’ve more often than not come out on the wrong end of these 2-0 games. I think at least 5 of our shutouts have been in blowout games. Markstrom had that 6-0 shutout at Vancouver. Markstrom had that 5-0 or so shutout against the Rangers before Christmas. Allen had the 5-0 shutout against Philly and a 4-0 shutout in Montreal. Daws had the 5-0 shutout last week in Nashville.

In a lot of our shutouts against we’ve probably had lopsided losses, but who can forgot the 1-0 loss to Blackwood and the Vladar shutout in Calgary, which was a 0-0 game at the final TV timeout, before they scored on back to back shifts with under 5 minutes left and that was game. And then we had this game. I’m pretty sure the LA game on new years was 1-0 until around halfway through the 3rd and ended 3-0.

And aside from shutouts, we had several of those non-shutout 2-1 (non-empty net) losses like to Philly and Ottawa on back to back days in January.
