Pete should have sat Volch from the start of the 3rd period.
I and other (most) fans called for it on the 2nd.

He instead lets Volch get out there in the 3rd and hooked him too late unfortunately.

If Lou does not buy Volch out this summer you know it's time for a new GM.

I could actually see Volchenkov AND Tallinder getting bought out.

I was pretty pissed following the game but when you think about the game, we easily could have lost. The Kostopoulos penalty shot goal should not have happened because it was a weak call, and the Carter short hander should have been easily stopped. It doesn't help much but it's a different way of looking at it. Regardless, we had the lead with under 20 second and we blew it.

The theme tonight seems to be "No excuse for losing that game" and I agree.

D'Agostini played his best game so far... Loktionov is FANTASTIC. Carter, Gionta, and Bernier were solid. Everyone else was a steaming pile of crap.

The guy that looks the worst right now is Clarkson. He is so ineffective it's hard to watch.

Volchenkov and Salvador looked real bad tonight as well. I'm getting tired of expecting borderline players to play above and beyond their abilities. I would trade for Campbell if I were Lou. Send Fayne, Severson, 2nd rounder. Hell send Tallinder. Florida may take him given the 3.8 mil cap break next season between the two players. Other than that we need to get HEALTHY.
clarkson frustrates me to no end. when he's playing like ****, he falls all over the place and plays like a complete moron. ever since his wrist got jammed, he has been playing poorly.

I was 3-0 at the Forum watching the Devils play before this. I can write a novel on how much this game pissed me off, and from reading this thread and what others are saying I doubt what I'm saying will be called on overreaction by many. This is EXACTLY what I have been saying, and it happened. I said TB's defense don't scare me, but their offense does. We score 4 goals on this team with a lineup with no Kovy that isn't very good (Mostly because Garon let in 2-3 piss poor goals) blow two different 2 goal leads, Kostopolous scores on a penalty shot goal (Call was kinda weak let's be serious here) but Zajac, and Elias can't? Tom frickin Kostopolous beat Garon on a penalty shot, but Zajac and Elias can't get a god damn shot off?

Marty was great in the opening period, but that third goal was like Clemmensen bad. Looked exactly like Bernier's goal in game 6 last year that I ripped Clemmer for giving up. Also GTFO VOLCHENKOV! If Volchenkov is in the lineup tomorrow then I swear I will not be making the trip to Sunrise again next year unless Volch is bought out.

You could probably give away Tallinder for 'something' once the dust settles and teams find out how much cap room they have after FA next year. I don't see Volch getting bought out until after next year (when he'd only have two years left on his deal), at earliest - and that's only cause they could use the compliance buyout and not have it on the cap.

I take solace in the fact that I truly believe this team is made for the playoffs when were healthy. Just like last year. As long as we get in I think we have a shot to do damage.

Wow this game was a real heartbreaker. Both teams looked great offensively but subpar on D. Loktionov proved once again that he is the real deal. If we don't lock this guy up imma flip s**t. CBGB looked real good together. I figured everything out and noticed that if everyone stays healthy they good be our 4th line headed in the postseason. I'm really liking the D'Ags pick up as well. He was making good passes and has a lot of speed. Henrique looked good as well. Greene was our best D-man and Sal looked decent as well, especially on the PK. And damn Volch and Harrold were awful.

I agree with most of your post, spot on about Clarkson, Volch and Sal.

But, Gionta should not be near the ice trying to protect the lead late in the 3rd.
He is a defensive liability in our own zone.

Don't trade Severson, but I would trade Zid in a package for Campbell and a Florida forward such as Kopecky, Goc or Fleischmann.

Clarskson really fooled me this season. With the start he had, I was pretty convinced that he was serious about becoming a high level hockey player, but his game has really regressed. I'm really disappointed with him.

Here is the thing with Clarkson. People think he can't skate and **** like that but it's not the case. Tell me how many times was he falling to the ice when he was owning the crease and doing work earlier in the year? It's pretty simple with him. He's playing real lazy right now. He's not working hard enough to be strong on the puck and he's not paying the price in front of the net. When he isn't doing those two things he's a useless player who does nothing but flop all over the ice looking at the referees for sympathy calls. He's an awful player to watch when he's in ***** mode. He has it in him to be better, I have no doubt. Dude just needs to man the **** up and get **** done. Plain and simple.

Volch did have a pretty solid stretch of games leading up to tonight, but unfortunately I think those were outliers...

His foot speed is terrible, he has no recognition with the puck. Would it hurt him to look up quick and find an option rather than blindly tossing pucks off the boards that get picked off or go for icings? His stupidity/lack of speed killed the team tonight. It's time for 28 to get a nice break because there is no reason for Larsson to be sitting.

14 games left so there's time to rally and play with more consistency, but it's running out. They have to fight and claw by before reinforcements come. Zubrus will be back soon and Kovy probably another two weeks minimum with translates to at least 7 more games without him.

Getting dragged through the coals at this point for a forward we're screaming for won't happen. Lou isn't going to knee-jerk and move valuable assets. It's going to have to come from within until we get two said forwards back.

Pete got badly outcoached by Lars Ulrich in his NHL coaching debut. Lars was putting Stamkos out there everytime Suckchenkov and Harrold were on the ice cause he had last change. As bad as I went off on tallinder after that Caps game it's nothing to how disgusted I am with Suckchenkov. There are only 3 god damn players on this team that make more than Suckchenkov this year.

If not for the weak call on Greek's penalty shot we don't get a point tonight. Garon also gave up 2 or 3 very weak goals. Loktionov's went right through his arm and body, Carter's was very weak, and I could argue Greene's might have been bad too. For one god damn time we actually take advantage of a BAD backup goalie in net, score 4 but can't keep 4 out of our net. This game was ripe for the taking from us. Easily the most winnable. Now tomorrow night Florida will put in their leaning wall of padsa goalie, and this team seems to have trouble getting up for that POS franchise on Long Island.

unfortunately, making the playoffs is a big if at this point. the east does suck, but if they can't beat teams like tampa, how the hell will they beat teams in playoff position? the leafs owned tampa a few days ago and the devils lose to them in the worst possible fashion.

You should have seen a win tonight, no need to justify bad Garon goaltending or possible bad ref calls (which is a given in today's NHL). Devils simply failed to protect the lead and lost it.

With Clarkson, it's like when he's hot and scoring goals he feels generous and starts passing, but once he goes cold it's "Screw you teammates, it's all about ME! I don't care how wide open in front of the net you are. I gotta keep the puck and get myself some goals!"

A very un-Devils attitude.

I'll tell you guys I'm damn glad I'm not the only one showing emotion over this tonight. This was the first game of the season that genuinely put me in a bad mood just outright. Thank god we have this place to vent after games like this. I even kinda blew off my girl (Devils have been horrible since we've been together:laugh:) tonight just now and she went home. Cause I was really pissed. Thank god I'm just going with a buddy to Sunrise tomorrow and not her! Not because I spent all that money to see this, but it was a BAD game. We finally score a bunch of goals on a BAD backup (Garon stunk tonight we all know that) and we give it right back not once, but twice. If not for the freebie penalty shot we don't even get a point. I saw the tying goal coming from a mile away. Clarkson's line kept icing the puck, but Pete didn't call a time out.

Blame Pete a little too - at the start of the slump Clarkson really 'wasn't' shooting. Pete said publicly he needed to shoot more. Clearly Clarkson took that too literally, and is now firing wristers from the fourth row of the stands.

Then we got the Fishcakes. This team no shows against them a lot. **** that POS franchise hard man. If we lose to them at home I think I'll be breaking some electronics around here.

Also hey Lou! What the **** is the point of having 8 god damn D men when we can't score 4 goals in a game without giving up another 4? I know Lars got the last change tonight, but he saw something. He would put Stammer out there every time Suckchenkov and Harrold were out. We can't have our number 7 and 8 defensemen out there against one of the best players in the game that many times. Pete also should have called a timeout one of the 4 times we iced the puck in the last 4 minutes of the game.

Suckchenkov got burned by the likes of Nate Thompson tonight!

Oy, I feel for ya

Only thing I'll say before I go to bed...we beat Florida and the Isles lose to Pittsburgh tomorrow, then we beat the Isles on Monday and this is all forgotten as we're seven points up on a playoff spot.

Of course that's presuming we actually beat teams we're supposed to, which is a major problem. And the Isles always show up against the Pens, too.

If you think about it, the Lightning have inadvertently boned us over the years.

-Trade for Rolston's rights before free agency but fail to reach a deal. Lou swoops in. We know the ending

-Dump Jussi Jokinen to the Canes in '09 for a couple scrubs and a 4th rounder. Devils face canes in the first round that year. We know the ending..

Now would be the PERFECT time to get 2 wins in a row. Beat Florida then the Isles and, assuming they lose to the pens, we have a good gap..

Yup if we win, and the Isles lose everything is good. Raggies got Montreal and then Winnipeg and two against the Pens. They lose 3 of those 4 they're done hopefully. The Pens also no show against the Fishcakes too quite often. Hopefully they put a beating on them like Crosby's first game back last year when they made the leaning tower of padsa Nilsson look like a demolition site.

I'll credit Marty for taking blame publicly like that. I really appreciate it, and I'm cool if he starts tomorrow but no more Volchenkov from here on out. Guy really sucks, and the kids shouldn't be sitting for him anymore. If he isn't bought out in the next two then this team could be in trouble. I'm going all full on DATW Volch hate now. There are 3 players on our team this year making more than him. Let that sink in for a second.
