Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - playoff edition

I think the narrative on the medical staff is overblown. These are professionals in a billion dollar industry. People are getting paranoid because there have been so many injuries over the last two years and it makes it easy to assume something off is going on with the staff.
I won't blame them for Jack choosing to be one of the weakest players in the league - that is on him (mostly) and the coaching staff.

What is this based on? Is there an actual source on this?

Source for what? It's not a rumor. It's a speculative trade I thought of. Perhaps I should have worded the Josi comment differently? He is on-the-downside of his career and CLOSER to retirement. Better? Lol

You said "Josi is leaning towards retiring" - that made it sound like retiring this offseason - so yeah the wording isn't clear at least initially.

It makes sense since it could explain the disinterested and totally averse to contact style he played in Utica. If one is injured and doesn't want to make it worse, staying out of harm's way at all costs would be the way to accomplish that outcome. It would drive a fan base at any level watching such an uninvolved high draft pick play such a style. However, would have been understandable had those watching known the reason for it. It would also drive those fans crazy for an explanation as to why a management and medical staff would put said player on the ice in the first place.

Did Simon keep it a secret or did NJ tell him to play through it? Either answer would be unacceptable and the medical people should have been able to diagnose an injury of that level simply by how his play was obviously affected.
I have plenty issues with my body because of intense sport past, my mistakes in training process and chair work through years with many many years of extra hours on the chair. I mwrking hard now on stretching, right habbits etc. And its not that hard to understand if you have some issues with shoulders - there are easy tests to test it. And even a good sportsman will not cover it.
So... I still have no answer. May be both sides knew it and decided to continue to play but focus on stayin away from full intense contact. Even with some pain you can continue to gain weight, work under pressure etc But without extra load and stress. It still asking to control.
And if its a case when everybody are agree to continue to process it through the game, I believe they would prefer to not talk about it publicly because some opponents can focus on his shoulder with his knowledge.

But I don't want to justify those who made the decisions. For the first part of the season, Nemec definitely looked disassembled and unprepared. And if this story is about a shoulder injury, then such a quick return is a crazy risk. Which I find unreasonable.

Nashville is low on RHD. Also Josi is leaning towards retiring. I wonder if Dougie is an option for Nashville. And maybe hence that's how Fitz gets O'Reilly after all? A sweetener might be Casey and/or a 2nd.

Trying to think of sensible trades where Dougie makes sense.

I like your thinking. I am thinking something similar in terms of a Hamilton for Brayden Schenn trade.

Goalie quality/performance - it can’t be the defense in front of them, the coaching, or the GM’s failures, it’s just bad luck with the goalies he chose.

Shooting percentage - it can’t be that the forwards lack quality shot selection/finishing skill or that the GM hasn’t acquired any snipers, it’s just bad luck with the shots.

Rampant Injuries - it can’t be anything with what the players do on the ice/being injury prone, the medical staff’s competence, or how injured players are managed, it’s just bad luck with random events.

Extended runs of mediocrity/losing - it can’t be the quality of the team, it’s just bad luck…related to goaltending, shooting, and injuries.

The New Jersey Black Clouds. The team that will always have at least 3/4 of the above things happening to them and has no control over any of it. 👌🤔

Dude, go for a walk or something. I know being out in nature helps when I'm feeling depressed.

Unless you get attacked by a mountain lion then it would just be bad luck.
Obviously I should have done more shoulder workouts so I could fight it off.

Although it does remind me of when we had a mountain lion just outside our backyard. Our two little terriers, fearless little bastards, were standing and barking by the fence acting like they were going to attack it. They probably would have too if the fence wasn't there.

That wouldn't have ended well
