HF Habs: 2025 NHL Draft: Part II

As of right now my two picks are
16 Reschny or Cootes
17 Carter Bear or Malcolm Spence

I am not the biggest Spence fan though and my only reasoning in selecting him is to have more size/speed in the forward position.

Reschny/Cootes are need but also very talented top 6 center.

Carter Bear is just the player you need to win the cup. A taller Gallagher with more offensive talent. At 17 (injury or not) he is a steal.

I like Spence’s speed and he has very decent stickhandling. Considering I want more than just an energy player at 16/17 I need to know if he can continue scoring goals in the NHL, as I’m not convinced about his playmaking. I’ll look into him some more.

Yes. He is a 3rd liner but the Habs need that size up front.

Interesting....
Would be crazy if Athe first 4 picks were all Canadian with 1 Quebecois too

people have brought up Nesbitt and i don't like him at our current picks. a lot needs to go right in his development for him to be a top 6 player. i don't see the good skating that some people have brought up. his stride is heavy, choppy, and he lacks agility. i find that he processes things a little slowly when he's got the puck in stride.

if the Habs trade one of the current 1st round picks in a package for a roster player and use some 2nds and 3rds to move back into the late first round, i'd take a flyer on him.

Late first round, I'd almost rather take the shot at Ryabkin. He's not as big, but he's meaner. He had top 10 skill coming into the year, maybe getting in the same room as Demidov can improve his work ethic.

He's got everything for a team to reach and draft but players like him rarely hit

I’ve only done a preliminary light dive into researching prospects in our range this year.
But so far:
Martin - my fave but Keeps rising. Pipe dream now
Cootes- leaning towards - he also might go ahead of us as well
Carbonneau (OF COURSE ALL MOCKS HAVE THE QC KID SHEEEESH)seems high skill but not a pro style game - don’t love
Bear - not exactly what we need but I’d be down
Aitcheson - LD but a gamer. like the tenacity
Reschny - not that big a fan
Lakovic- I like. we could use him in our middle 6

The problen with Nesbitt is that he might not even reach the NHL at least with Lakovic you know he has the talent. I would stay clear of both but gun to my head I have to choose one. I am going Lakovic.

Nesbitt looked to have develop nicely throughout the year despite playing secondary role on a stacked team with limited minutes. I think he has a fair chance of breaking out next year with more minutes.

I have no concern about him 'dominating' in junior I do not see how he could reach the NHL with his clear lack of pace, that's my issue. I have seen so many great talent fail to become NHL players even though they had size and talent but that lack of pace is very hard fix.
Logan Brown is a good comparable. He had talent, size, vision but he lacked pace. He dominated junior, AHL but he could not bring his game to the NHL. I was also a huge fan of him but that step from junior to the NHL will expose that weakness even more.

That being said, Nesbitt is more physical and could maybe develop into a goon or a physical 4th line center or a player similar to Marcus Foligno but personally I would rather target top 6 talent with 1st round pick. He can be useful for a team but I am not convinced about him being better than other player at the rank we draft.
