Tomorrow they can clinch and win 4 in a row. Weak opponents left, so I want 4-1 in the last 5 unless they play some youngsters.

And then of course, the dagger. Literally the first time I purposely watched that Staal goal since it happened.

I lived it and was catatonic going out of the arena. Then my next live sports event was the Luis Castillo pop up drop fiasco at Yankee Stadium six weeks later. Amazing I didn’t just forsake sports entirely at that point.

Game 1 was a dominant 4-1 win. Game 2 they played another really good game but the Canes got a fortuitous bounce and tied the series in OT. It’s a little blurry after that but that game 2 loss was so close to a 2-0 lead and it changed the entire feel of that series. Devils probably deserved the 2-0 cushion. Game 7. f***. The way I stormed downstairs.
Canes then upset the Bruins in 7 the next round before the Pens spanked them in the ECF. Was a little Cinderella run for Carolina. I often wonder how that Devils team would have fared in the 2nd round against Pittsburgh. The Pens were a wagon on the way to the Cup win.

I have never been a raging sports fan in life...outside of that one loss. I was like 22-23 and drunk, and power bombed the shit out of my computer chair when we gave up that losing goal.

The 3-0 almost comeback only to blow it in the final millisecond of Game 4 was only the appetizer for the shit sandwich we got served in Game 7, most run of the mill series that Game 4 ending would be the decisive blow

I really liked our chances that year. I was concerned with the Canes but was confident that if they got past them they could make a run. Really sucks what happened. For some reason I remember us dominating the Pens that year but I was wrong.
We were 3-3 against the Penguins that year. 2 of our wins were in OT. All 3 of theirs were regulation wins.
2-1 OT win
4-1 loss
4-1 win
1-0 loss
4-3 OT win
6-1 loss
Marty played in the first and last game against them that year. I just remember being very confident we could take them in a series. None of this matters lol but that 09 flameout was tough.

Yeah that 09 Carolina series was my worst sports memory to date and the ironic part was that it was my first full year watching the Devils. It also felt like the Devils could've done something had they got past Carolina, Marty came back mid year and wasn't tired from the usual 70 games, Parise was a monster the whole year too carrying the team up front.

Carolina 09 I think is Rangers 94 for a lot of fans of my generation. What a gut punch. Speaking of punches in my rage I dented my car door with a quick jab after that game.

What an absolute shit series for the devils. Just choking all over the place. In both game 4 and 7 they couldn’t clear the zone despite chance after chance after chance. And then Marty with the absolute epic softies. Just gross.
Also, if they somehow didn’t choke away that series, they still weren’t gonna get past the penguins. Not with that no-name defense and dummy Sutter playing Maddolfo like it was still 2003.
It was a great regular season though. One of the funnest I can remember.

The 2009 team was so good and so underrated. The beat everyone in the East except Carolina that year. Who do they draw in the first round and still almost manage to beat?

We were very unlucky to play against Rangers, Canes and Flyers. We were absolutely bad specifically against each team in the respective seasons.
I was at college in south Jersey, so I didn’t really have a way to watch the Devils much that year other than national games. For game 7 I was at a house show and my buddy was texting me updates. I thought he was f***ing with me when he said there was a last minute collapse. This was obviously before smart phones so I had to wait a few hours to log on to my computer and verify that he was in fact not f***ing with me.

One of my roommates and I took NJT from Rutgers and got cheap tix in the nosebleeds. The Rolston goal sent us into a frenzy, but that GWG felt like someone stepped on our nuts. Worst live game experience of my life lol. Horrible ride back to school.

that game sucked. my rangers fan buddy had an equally tough night, i think that was the year the caps came back after being down 3-1 or 3-0 or something. i vividly remember us smoking our troubles away that night.
