Only reason I remember is cause we got in a fender bender on the drive in and missed the opening ceremonies
Also the 1st game of the playoffs against the Caps was on my wife's birthday that season. Got the Happy Birthday message up on the screen...I was all proud of myself. She wasn't impressed.

She did like the name plate necklace in diamonds though....so ghetto.

This is where I'm going to disagree. He's not going to flip a switch and become some transcendent player in the playoffs. Hes finished. They seriously need to consider buying him out.

If he carries his weight (of 5M) it's more than enough for me to keep him. At 34 he is exactly the age of player you want in the playoffs, the age where you understand this could really be the last time.

If he is really washed up, he won't show up in the playoffs, but that won't happen. If you skate after a rubber puck for living, and the only thing that matters is winning in the playoffs, you will show up even if you are bit injured... and there is a good chance he is trying to just survive the season, having had a lower body injury in every one of the last 10 seasons he has had, including the 2022 groin surgery.

In 1989 you could go to the box office and get any seat in the house for $28 or less :). I have a Row 1 $28 ticket for the home opener against Calgary somewhere in the house. We sat just to the side of Mike Vernon twice...He smiled and waived to my wife....never really cared for goaltenders since.
You do realize Vernon first looked at you and the rueful smile and wave he gave to your wife was one of empathy akin to how a parent might look at a child going off to war.

fitz went on a jersey tuck hunt at the deadline.

I was a good boy by 89'. Had my hair cut and was probably wearing my highschool letterman jacket in October. I was able to fool a lot of people in thinking that I was respectable...two years earlier would've been very iffy.

forgot to ask. did you consider a pearl necklace instead of diamonds?

I think I had cut my hair by that point. I went through about four short relationships in 1989 before meeting my wife late in the year. I knew she was the one because she was willing to go to games and have fun when she could not have cared less about hockey. Well, that and she didn't run away screaming when she saw me unlike most other people.

Seeing Ween in February 2020 at Terminal 5 is a decision that only gets better the more time passes.

speaking of decisions.... saw ween in toronto in 2000...partied good, ended up waking up at someone i knew's couch at 1pm the next day with half an hour to get to my UPS job....

Has anyone seen a live show that they regret? I saw a number of acts I was not that into at the time but most of them impressed me. In retrospect I'm really glad I was able to see King Crimson with Adrian Belew and Jonathan Richman and the Modern Lovers and even ELP. The wife and I recently went to see Steely Dan open for the Eagles. We are both big fans of Steely Dan and I was not expecting much from the Eagles but they were very good. Of course you know every song but they still sound good and play their instruments well and they were into the show and their interactions with the audience. Live music is truly one of life's greatest treasures for me.

femmes massey hall 2016

too pricey for a stupid short set. otherwise it was fine

kid rock (not my cup of tea/free ticket) was actually an impressive live show. the drummer/backup female singer was really good

the only live shows I've seen that disappointed me were Eddie Money who was drunk as a skunk and it hurt his singing and Bruce on the Tunnel of Love tour when he refused to play any of his hits and it was a good but not great concert as a result. Of course, I'd seen Bruce before and had experienced him playing his crowd pleasing favorites so the new show was a letdown for me.

I was most disappointed with ZZ Top...it wasn't even a concert as much as a stage show... Disney concert full of lip syncing and props...it was ridiculously juvenile.

And it was in such contrast to the Black Crows who opened. They blew the doors off...then ZZ Top comes out and I felt like I was on the "It's a Small world" ride in Orlando.
