I can’t see the Nucks move EP40 unless they have other moves lined up to acquire a C or two. We have no C to add in a deal so they would have to flip assets they get to acquire a C . Maybe if they think Mercer could become a C and they use other assets they get to add a C but … I still don’t see any scenario where they move EP40 . Nemec Mercer and ???? Leaves them with no real top 6 C except Chytyl .
They could go partial rebuild. They just traded JT Miller who just had 100pts and is an all around good player. EP is still sucking. Hard to believe that isn't causing issues in the locker room still. He looked awful and checked out at the 4 Nations as well. There is legit risk with that contract, especially considering the length. If he doesn't bounce back, it can sink a team. But if he does bounce back and this was a fluke, it could create a real contender.

If they did move him, yea I agree they'd probably want a C back so something with Buffalo/Cozens+ makes more sense. I'm really stuck on the Dumo trade and the subsequent trades by other teams though. Either Fitz is a smuck (prob likely) or they actually did want a player with retention for some reason and were willing to overpay to get it.

I expect ROR to age better than Haula, if the price isn't astronomical you take on ROR, Haula gets bought out this summer

Soucy has been abysmal since his 1 good yr in Seattle in 22-23
Soucy was really good last year in VanC . This year … not so much

Trading good assets and tying up $4.5M to a 35 year old center is not a smart move to trying and fix the forward depth. That's depleting a good chunk of your assets into a risky player. If he declines like many 35 year olds do then you're right back in the same situation that the Devils are currently in with less assets and cap space.
4.5 for a 3c is peanuts now . A typical 3c will be around 5.5+ mil moving forward . It’s a bargain. Currently . I agree it’s risky but it’s only two years and he hasn’t shown signs of decline yet. If he does decline next year , someone will take a flyer on a vet that is good on face offs (56% currently ) and solid defensively . He doesnt rely on speed so I can’t see his usefulness fall off a cliff like other players . Plus he is good defensivejy and at face offs so at 4.5 he would still bring positives to the team if his production fell off . I understand where you are coming from but where the can you find a perfect veteran 3c for 4.5 mil that isn’t a long term commitment ? That is almost impossible to find .

Palat will have a 10 team trade list after this season - he can easily make it difficult for us to move him if he puts contenders. It is likely a buy out or retain him.
Oh shit, I always read it as a 10 team no trade for next season, which is wayyyyy more common unless it's a superstar. Nevermind. Moving Palat will be a pain probably (or buying him out), but still possible with cap jump.

Man, I didn't rant about that Palat contract enough when it was signed. Too much money. Too much term. And a full NMC that only drops to a 10 team list as if he was f'ing Ovechkin.

EP40 has 11G/24A in 55 games and gets 11m and has a NMC coming into effect soon. Unless Carolina is able to turn Rantanen into a package to beat Mercer/Nemec I don’t see who beats that.

It depends on Vancouver saying it’s time to move on and not waiting for the draft.

People really want Petersson ? We are set with our top 2 centers. Petersson has a ton of skill but the last thing we need is a somewhat reclamation project.

Palat's buyout isnt bad at all, people are just terrified of dead cap

Ya I can’t see anyone with the current cap room plus sssers and need to go after EP40 except maybe Buffalo . BUT I can’t see VanC moving him unless they have a plan in place already to somehow fill their vacant C hole(s) . Who would they have at C if they moved him ? Chytyl and … UFA to be Suter and ??? They would be gutted at C . Maybe they have a plan in place to flip what they get from us to get a C ? Seems very risky by them to dump their 1c

Issue there is Jack misses a ton of time and Nico needs help defensively which Pettersson could alleviate

Obviously there are other ways to do this but no other team can afford Pettersson's contract today/tomorrow without serious cap dumps

The problem Isn't the $4.5M cost, It's that between trade cost and his salary you'll be losing a lot ammunition to improve the forward group and putting that into a player that will be 35 next season. The risk is not at all worth the reward in this scenario.

Yeah Buffalo, or Anaheim I guess, depends on who Vancouver really values and if they are serious about getting him.
