1. Every GM says their team is here to compete. It's PR speak, it sells tickets to casual fans, who cares. None of them are like "yeah idk maybe we'll make the playoffs, some these guys suck, dunno what to tell you."

2. Tampa absolutely dominated the league for years, including winning multiple cups, before they started these crazy spending sprees. We have not.

3. Tampa's core was far more mature than ours when they started on this trajectory. Jack is 23. Luke is in the throes of puberty. Compare that to the ages of Tampa's stars when they started making waves.

Tampa Bay is in win now mode because Hedman is 34 and Kucherov is 31 with no contract in two years

The Devils wont be in win now mode until at least the turn of the decade. By then Jack would only be 28 years old

I don't think we're by any means in cup or bust territory, but we absolutely should be in make the playoffs or bust territory.

We had Jack for 61 games or something, as well as a mostly healthy lineup for the majority of the season, save for 5 or 6 games of no Nico and several weeks without Markstrom (where goaltending performed fine) and were circling the drain anyway. Don't even tell me the two or however many weeks without Haula's cremains made a god damn bit of difference.

I'd totally trade Kovacevic, he would bring something back. I see no reason to bring him back at the price he'll supposedly get.

I'm not sure if the interest in Allen will be very high. Maybe if he was available to Florida before Vitek.

Jack was here for 60 games (I'll say it again) and the team has been circling the drain for months.

No Jack for the rest of the year may be the difference between squeaking into a wild card spot and just barely missing.

This better not be an excuse for dickhead again, as they looked like they easily could have missed the playoffs even with Jack.

Make the playoffs or perish.

The April 15th game will be a riot if it's the last one of the season.

As terrible as that is, it’s better than him trying to play through it and delaying the surgery. Ridiculously tough blow and there’s no replacing him or recreating him in the aggregate. But they are still in a pretty good spot to make the playoffs.
