Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part IV

honestly jack played the four nations tournament like he didn't want to jeopardize the devils season by getting injured there. it was a meaningless tournament besides national pride - it wasn't the olympics and look at matt tkachukl being out for a long time now. I have no problem with that honestly.

though i do wish he had a better showing, we've seen him show up in big games and in the playoffs and not shy away from contact the way he did there. not taking anything from that tbh

isn't that the same thing as the Olympics?

its like hes the eric lindross of shoulders

Lol yeah, the Blues are gonna trade Robert Thomas in the middle of their playoff run and them having him locked a great number. They're gonna go for depth pieces and hope they can sneak in and get Jack by R1 or R2

Nice trade bringing in a AHL center and potential 4C for nothing.

I guess this all confirms Jack is done for the year, if they are brokering deals.

I guess we just got a little bigger. Kinda of curious why the Oilers gave up on him?
He hasn't signed - and perhaps the Oilers didn't think he would. I don't understand how long teams hold rights, but this is his D+4 year, so possible his rights expire this summer?

Borderline praying for Mercer to find his game at C.

Everything after the holiday break has been such a bummer. And I don't know that I fault Fitz for not biting on any deal, the GMs from these deadbeat teams are desperate to save face.
I’m not getting my hopes up but I imagine he will get the longest look next to Bratt which should help a ton.

I would imagine a different center will be added between now or Friday. Hopefully not just a third line guy and someone who could play 2C minutes.

There’s no way Fitzgerald can go past this deadline without adding something to supplement the center group. It’s understandable nothing has happened yet with the lack of cap space, but if we can bank 8 million of space for Hughes, there’s no excuse not to add.

This strikes me as a major major f***ing problem. Are there other players who had recurring shoulder injuries like this that we can look at to get a sense of what kind of impact this might have on Jack’s career?
Generally other players with shoulder problems have been fine after getting surgery on it to tighten everything back up.

Basically, my understanding, is a shoulder gets looser and more prone to injury over time and then surgery tightens it all back to normal and it’s fine.

So the questions for me, would the above care about violent collisions that could damage even regular shoulders? I’m guessing not.

Also, which shoulder is at issue?

Unless Jack is literally out till the playoffs what’s the point in that? And if he is good luck to Fitz magically hoping he’ll come back day one and be vintage, assuming we haven’t outright blown a spot.
I’m saying this means he is probably out until the playoffs are longer.

Even setting aside the physical concern of the shoulder being injury prone and possible permanent damage impacting his effectiveness…there’s the potential mental ramifications that could negatively impact his effectiveness. How is he supposed to go out there and play to his full capacity knowing he could blow out his shoulder at any moment?

If he doesn’t becoming damaged goods after this it will be a miracle.

And as fans we have to bank on this leadership group to potentially replace Jack at this juncture when even with him they still haven’t managed to graduate this team to consistent playoff team yet?

This is a nightmare scenario.

PuckPedia is saying he has to be signed by Aug 15th, 2027 - which seems to make sense as he's only in his 2nd year of college. He'll be 22 before the start of next season, so have to think he likely goes pro after this season at BU, though being the captain there if they come up short this season and could win it all next year maybe he returns for his Junior year.

I'm sure there were plenty of fans saying similar things about Crosby given his concussion history.

People need to pump the brakes a bit here.
