Palms didn't work well with Hughes. With Meier already a forward in our top 9 who doesn't work well with him, I don't like how that potentially constrains the lines.
They last played in what the pandemic season in 2021 ? Jack was still breaking out that year and played a ton with Sharangovich and Kuokkanen.

Jack is a much better player now. They might actually work well together. Palms shouldn't be the Devils #1 target but he would still be a good add for the right price. Just don't want to see Tom send out a 2nd round pick or something similar to get him. At the same time this team needs help upfront.

I like that he can still skate

I could get behind bringing him back
This charts surprising me. Because in his last stint he didn't. When I saw him as an islander he didn't.
So personally I still don't believe that it is a good idea, but will see. Small sample size may be. But I would prefer more 4 way mobile two way player with better board work even if he woll cost more because he should produce too. We don't need another Toffoli and from how Palmeiri played with us - we don't need another Palmieri.

The reason he played with Sharangovich and Kuokkanen is because he and Palmieri did not gel. Still, Palmieri played the most with Hughes that season, while they were a +5 together, Hughes's microstats were much, much better away from Palms.

Palmieri will cost more than a 2nd round pick.

It doesn’t really matter because Lou ain’t selling

I honestly think he might, unless they go on another humpty heater after the break ends.

He even sold in 10-11 when the team was winning like every night and really had people believing they would sneak into the playoffs.

I remember us pulling to within like 6 points of a playoff spot in early March. The deadline may have been late February that year because that’s when he traded Arnott, who was the only significant piece we had to sell that year.

And of course he sold in 14-15, but I’d have to think that team was further out of a spot than the Islanders currently are.

I think he will sell, unless they go on another heater to the deadline. And even then I could still see him selling.

I'm incredibly biased, but I would love having Palms back. And maybe I'm crazy, but he always played well with Nico, no? Would it be crazy to put him on Nico's right? I know Nico plays well with virtually everyone.

Bratt-Jack-Mercer
Meier-Nico-Palms
Palat-Haula-Noesen
Cotter-Lazar-Bastian/Tatar

I know this isn't realistic, I'm sure Palat will continue getting his opps with Bratt and Jack. But I really wouldn't mind seeing Mercer get a shot with them either. And hey, what else do we have to talk about today?

I would also bet Haula and Bratt aren’t practicing today. They’re letting them have a travel day back. They probably didn’t even fly home until morning.

If I had to guess, that’s probably what will happen. They’ll probably be back for tomorrow and Jack likely won’t be back until morning skate on Saturday.

Lol we all know Lou's mindset. He is mentally incapable of doing a proper sell. And the Isles are only 3 points back of the Blue Jackets with a game in hand (and 4 back of the Red Wings with same games played). So they are technically "in it". That franchise will aim to get in the playoffs and lose in 5 as long as Lou remains.

I'd have to look back at that 10-11 deadline but I was on this board and I remember not being angry that Arnott was getting traded so I think it was when the team had lost a few and reality had set in that we're not making a miracle comeback to the playoffs. That team could've made the Cup final if not for Johnny Mac and Langs.

Edit: I looked it up and the deadline was on February 28th and the team was still in the middle of the heater so you're right. But I still doubt he sells this year.

Guess Markstrom will be out for a bit longer. Its been 5 weeks since his injury

These four callups suggest LTIR is coming, but with the Devils having 3.9M in cap space according to puckpedia, they use up almost all the space but not all of it - this suggests that the Devils must be making a trade or some other move, I think. It's within $40k of the maximum amount of AAV the Devils could add to their cap from the minor leagues.

Stillman lol. There's that first round pick bias at play. It's going to be a high bar for him to match our other disastrous 29OA pick in games played. 44 for us and 92 total.
