just wait til you find out about the tournament they want to play in every 4 years in the middle of the season when the games are played on the other side of the world now thats stupid!

I can make an exception for the Olympics quite easily but even that isn't as fun without Russia in it. It would be nice to see guys like Silayev play World Juniors and guys like Gritsyuk playing for Russia in the Olympics as well. It's a shame we can't see how Russia currently stacks up in the international hockey scene.

I’ll be interested to see how the 4 Nations games are played.

I expect the skating and board battles to be full effort but I do think you will see players be safer with their bodies than they would be in a regular season game. I guess I’m thinking this will be something like an amped up all-star game level of play; all-star with board battling and positional defense actually being played.

I'd expect the level of hockey to be pretty good. Nastiness won't be on par with say the 1996 World Cup, but once the puck is dropped I think these guys won't be able to turn off the competitiveness. Especially since this is an Olympic audition for a good chunk of players.

is anyone excited for shutting down the league for 2 weeks to play this in brand new gimmicky in season tournament ? that i was told would never happen ?

Personally don't mind the break. I admittedly put a little too much time/effort into watching the Devils in the regular season, so now I don't have to get worked up being stuck in the office late and having to avoid spoilers for a couple weeks.

The tournament setup is far from perfect, but I know how much the 1996 World Cup boosted my interest level as a kid. To that point (pre-Internet), I wouldn't have been able to tell you whether Bill Guerin or Scott Niedermayer were American or Canadian without digging up a magazine. I like to think this appetizer of international hockey will be of interest to the 2025 equivalent of 1996 me.

I get that we're mostly cynical adults who compulsively complain online, but yeah, I'm excited to see Canada/USA next Saturday.

As a hockey fan, I'm very interested to see how that game goes.

An update we all probably knew but hoped wouldn't happen.

Curious to see if the Devils end up calling Hatakka up at the end of the break rather than Nemec, especially how Nemec struggled these last two games.

Would give the Devils 3LD and 3RD and allow them to get Hatakka a handful of games while he doesn’t need to pass through waivers for a couple weeks to go back down.

Depending on how other things play out giving Hamilton's 9m to Luke would make a lot of sense to me. Im not sure how you can fit both but if its possible Im up for it! Issue then is, would we be able to fill some holes or is there no money left?

I agree. I think he’s similar to DeSimone in that he’s a very capable depth option that can give you solid third pairing minutes.

I just think Keefe and Fitzgerald are going to want to get a sample of his game before the deadline to see if they feel he’s the defensive depth you need come playoff time. With him as 4LD and Nemec/Casey as 4/5 RD, Devils may feel that’s enough.
