Oh it's a relief too, I'm happy about that.

I'm just questioning the usage of mild the way it was reported just prior. I guess medically it is a "mild grade sprain", but as a fan I don't consider a guy who misses a month and a half to have a mild injury..

I don't think Timo decided to go to the coach and say, "hey, don't put me on PP1". If you sign an offensive player, don't play him on the PP, and wonder why he isn't scoring as much, that's on you.

But he was taken off the unit because the unit is better with another player in his spot.

I agree. And a team signing a player to a big ticket would probably want to have thought about that before signing said player.

I agree. Noesen has been excellent on the PP. It really is not all that surprising, because he was doing the same thing in Carolina.

But then if you pull Timo from the PP to do that, it doesn't make sense to wonder why he's not scoring 35 goals. Last season there were literally zero 35 goal scorers in the NHL that were not also on their team's 5v5 PP1 (I will answer the question I posed for you there, seeing as you were unwilling to answer).

Yes but they also started looking good earlier in that game when the lines started clicking. And they threw it into another gear when Markstrom went down

You continue to miss the part that Timo was pulled from the top pp unit. In addition to his 5v5 shot rate/goal rate/shooting % being at or near career lows.

And Noesen was on Carolina's top unit 2 years ago and avg'd 1.99 goals/60. Las year he avg's 1.4 goals/60 on Carolina's 2nd unit last year. This year he is avg 4.14 goals/60. He has 9 PP goals already this year, last year he had 3. So no he was not doing the same thing in Carolina.

Agree with Boss above, and I always consider it when we look to add fwd's. If you acquire a goal scorer who scores a bunch on the PP, what happens if he were to come here? Even a guy like Tkachuk, he definitely squeezes Noesen if we were to acquire him, but would he actually be better then Noesen on the PP? Would be tough.

Conversely a benefit of Timo, and one we haven't really seen here yet in NJ, is he was always said to be a play driver 5v5, so if he can do so for our 3rd line, that's a big benefit vs's other goal scorers who don't drive play or need other guys to set them up. Timo can create scoring ops for himself.

They had 3-4 prime scoring chances in that first. It was a good start even with them finding chemistry with the new lines

I was shooting from the hip. I've got the top paid list up. Still need to cross over to the PP.

One player I saw who was just signed to a big contract and who has underwhelmed is PL Dubois. I'm doubting he's on the top PP unit.

Edit: all 3 of the guys you mention are on their teams top pp units.

I mean, he has 100% gotten better at faceoffs this year. Albeit not a huge amount but he is currently at a career high in faceoff %

Its not something that comes quick, think he will continue to over time.

He is below 38% - he is not getting materially better or stronger. Avoids contact as much as possible and has no forechecking desire.

You never know. Crappy goalies won cups in the past when their teams play lights out. Lets see how this Canes squad does. It was long overdue them to make a big splash

With how the Hurricanes play offensively, they won't be able to get away with bad goaltending. They had good goaltending in one year of their core that I can remember and it was 2023. Raanta lost them the 2022 series/Freddy lost them last year's series v NYR too.
