The team is struggling to score goals. Timo as our highest paid fwd scoring at a career low rate is part of that discussion.

Now while I think this is an interesting discussion, I think it has been reset by his game last night. I think last night showed that Timo could be a true impact player on that 3rd line. Just one game, need to see more, but if he continues to play that well, and the 3rd line is able to produce, that is a significant twist to the story.

As noted above I was talking 5v5 scoring/60 so his total toi does not factor into that.

And aside from his last year and a half in SJ, he's averaging more 5v5 toi per game in NJ then he did in SJ.

He has been more then good enough. If you say points dont tell the story - he is 3rd on the team in expected goals, top 4 in points per 60, Corsi is top 4 on the team (above Bratt), top 3 in on ice goals %

He has been more then good., he would probably have 5 more goals and 10 more points had he been PP 1.

1. Bad news for Team Sweden as Jacob Markstrom will “miss some time,” according to Sheldon Keefe, after getting hurt Wednesday against Boston. Linus Ullmark is a question, too, and now there is concern that whatever lingering injury is bothering William Karlsson could cause him to miss the 4 Nations Face-Off. We should get clarity soon. Hopefully, everything works out for him.
2. The wish is that Markstrom recovers as quick as possible. One thing to remember: if Jake Allen plays 40 games, the Canadiens get a second-round selection at the upcoming draft. If not, it’s a third. (He’s at 15.)

8. The Hurricanes and Rangers are two of the teams with permission to talk to J.T. Miller. Believe the New York offer was Filip Chytil, a first-rounder and a prospect. I get very mixed messages on New Jersey. The Rangers have the cap room to do it, but the Devils would need to perform roster surgery to pull it off. Yes, they struggled until pounding Boston on Wednesday, but that’s a good team. I’m not convinced about Dallas, either. I always assume I’m missing something, though.

10. A few days after frustrated comments to a Slovakian newspaper, things have cooled down around Simon Nemec. The Devils communicated to anyone who asked they have zero interest in the dealing the 2022 second-overall selection. If anything, the Olympic qualifier injury last August hurt his chances of making New Jersey. Things will reset next fall. Let’s see what unfolds then.

18. Tom McVie died this week at age 89. Very, very friendly, he had one of the most distinctive voices in the sport, gravelly and unmistakeable. At one of the Roger Neilson coaches’ clinics, Dave Barr, who played 614 NHL games, told a phenomenal story about playing for McVie on the 1991-92 New Jersey Devils. Barr got stripped carrying the puck in his own zone, leading to a breakaway. Their goalie made the save, but Barr, charging back as hard as he could to make up for his mistake, knocked the puck into his own net. An absolutely disastrous shift. Sitting on the bench, “I could feel (McVie’s) eyes burning holes through me,” Barr laughed years later. “Finally he yelled, ‘Not only did you get the goal, you also got an assist!’ All I could see what my teammates around me, shaking as they tried to hold their laughter.”

Still REALLY don't get some people wanting to trade Hamilton. Slow start because he didn't play hockey for a very long time. He's on pace for 51 pts which would be the second best year of HIS CAREER.

None of Casey, Nemec, Kovacevic or Pesce are going to come remotely close to replacing that offensive production.

It is just simply making the team worse by trading him. You want to have two kids thrown into responsible roles and big shoes to fill when the team is in their contention window.

JP Gambatese had a Twitter thread on this but the best performing bottom sixes in the league are FLA, DAL and VGK, who get about 1/3rd of their goal scoring from those guys. Multiple conference finals, not to mention cup finals, for all of them. Our bottom six accounts for 1/4th. It is a problem and in the playoffs you need unsung heroes. I don't think the current group is capable of that.

The cap is what it is, you have to deal with it. You're trading a 50-60 pt d-man with middling defense to add 100+ points up front with that cap space. The team is good defensively and I'd argue that has far more to do with Keefe than the personnel playing in the bottom six.

Luke will have an uptick in points - his kind of luck always reverses itself. Nemec will be sheltered with Dillon and you can roll the other two pairs for 22 minutes a night.

If you take the empty nets out of it, we have lost quite a few one goal games. That extra jump up front is absolutely the difference. You can look at the latest game against Boston and how good things happen when you get the third line going and the top two lines still control play, even if they're cold at 5v5.
 
I think it would be a net gain if we traded Hamilton for Miller , and replaced Hamilton with Nemec or eventually Casey . But I’m saying that without taking into account what that would or could do to the locker room. Might sour some of the players and not work out as it should on paper . Maybe Miller gets pissy when he isn’t the first C up in a key situation . Maybe Jack doesn’t like having Miller take his draws and switch from C to wing for face offs ( possibly ) . Or first time Miller flaps his gums at Jack when he has one of his notorious turn overs in overtime etc . , it causes tension between the two .
First off , Hamilton would have to waive to go to VanC . I can’t see that happening ever . So it’s kind of a moot point . On paper , I’d like to swap him for the type of player Miller is , but not Millwr himself . My only concern with Miller is if the Canes land him for a bunch of “ meh “ . If it’s Kotinemi or however the hell you spell his name ( pretty sure it translates to “underwhelming “ in whatever native language ) , I’ll be pissed . Without adding to out forward group , if the Canes add Miller without really taking anyone off their current roster of any significance ( Morrow / Drury / KK ) , then I’d say we are pretty well much screwed if we face them in the playoffs

I dont understand the infatuation in trading Dougie.

He is still our best point producing forward on pace for over 50 points this year. If we were to ever do this, it certainly is Not in the middle of the season.
 
Jack is yet again having another terrible face-off season. I don't even really care about the face-offs - it is more so how has he not gotten any better in six seasons? Doesn't seem like he is getting any stronger and is afraid of physicality. I don't think he is having an overly strong season, especially at even strength.

I mean, he has 100% gotten better at faceoffs this year. Albeit not a huge amount but he is currently at a career high in faceoff %

Its not something that comes quick, think he will continue to over time.
