gonna say something and then run away and duck.

JT Miller for Dougie Hamilton, Seamus Casey and a 1st. Dougie would have to waive, which is tough. But..

A lot to love about that 3rd line. Miller preforms in the playoffs and he plays a with an edge. I understand that there've been rifts in the past but he's a pretty f***in unbelievable player.

I remember the Devils adding a guy to put them over the edge who had character concerns, wasn't universally beloved in the locker room, but played like a f***ing deranged asshole. Pretty sure that guy won a Conn Smythe in our jersey.
As a Canucks fan I'd probably do it value-wise. Except I think both Hamilton and casey would be heavily neutered in Vancouver as neither one would get the top line pp where quinn hughes lives. So maybe if we could quickly flip Hamilton to a team that needs a pp qb?

I'd only do it because vancouver feels like a clown show right now. I hope they trade Miller and pettersson. I even heavily prefer Miller to Pete, but tired of the ongoing team silliness. Rebuild a bit, and go at it again with quinn leading.

I know we’re not in the locker room, and I usually hate fan speculation based on hearsay, but I think JT Miller is one of the times you can piece two and two together. The dude is clearly a hot head. On top of giving up the premium assets, why throw someone like him into a locker room that appears to be functioning like a healthy team. He’s not Nathan Mackinnon good to overlook his hot headed attitude.

After all the shit with JT Miller a couple of years ago and it looking like he was getting traded, before he abruptly signed that extension out of nowhere after weeks and weeks or maybe even months of rumors, I'm pretty sure HE is the problem between him and Pettersson.

Apparently he only wants to go to the Rangers.

I almost want it to happen because I can’t imagine throwing him into the middle of a team spiraling will do any long term good either.

I agree he does not sound like a good fit in NJ. I can only imagine how it would go down the first time he lit up Luke.

JT Miller produces in the playoffs? Guy has twelve goals in 91 postseason games, Claude had more in one single postseason

He didn't break out offensively until later in his career when he joined the canucks. In his last 2 playoffs he has 30 points in 30 games.

Literally any team playing -13 total goals in xG 5v5 over half a season would have questions about it. Just no way to overcome that kind of shooting luck. A person who is inclined towards thinking about history might think about the 1994 and 1995 Devils teams.

There aren't any questions for me.
Could you elaborate on the bolded? What are you getting at?

30 points in his last 30 playoff games. 21 are at even strength. Yes, he produces in the playoffs.
JT Miller is 32 years old lol what the hell man
Dougie Hamilton is 31 years old, 'man'. JT Miller makes less money and for fewer years. JT Miller fits a major organizational need. Dougie Hamilton leads a major organizational logjam. You add the 1st to thank the Canucks for taking that contract off of your hands.

Do you have your head buried so far into the sand that you didn't realize JT Miller had 115 points over 81 regular season and 13 playoff games last season? 25 5v5 goals, only 2 Devils since the 2012 lockout (Hall and Jack) have done that.

That is a preposterous overpay, and frankly does nothing too solve the looming cap issues that has prompted everyone to start jettisoning Dougie in the first place.

okay, great. So why are we then adding in a good prospect and another 1st round pick on top....?

trade makes no sense.

I'll also note that I'm not even sure how much Vancouver would want Dougie. Kind of losing out on a bunch of Dougie's value if he's not your PP QB and there's no way in hell he's supplanting Quinn from that role.

I kind of just think that if Dougie gets moved, it's going to be for a mediocre roster player + pick type situation. Not sure that it's part of a huge trade. That's why I don't know if he gets moved or not, though I'm sure Fitz will kick it around this off season.

I'm thinking something like Dougie to Anaheim for Ryan Strome + futures. Or to Detroit for Copp + futures. Something like that.

Give me JT Miller for 5 more at $8 per over Dougie for 3 more at $9 per any day of the week and twice on sunday. The Devils have plenty of defenseman in the system. They do not have plenty of forwards.

trade makes no sense.
Because fans on HF aren't the only ones who can see that Dougie is a skilled PP player but 3rd pairing defenseman at this stage of his career and not exactly likely to improve with age.
also, Dougie's contract is for 3 more years after this one and Miller's is for 5 more years after this one, so no, it is not "for fewer years"
Point taken, my quick google search failed me. I saw 2 years left, the reality was 2 years left until a NMC kicks in.

Yea, so how about that future #1 and a high ranking prospect in addition to a very good defenseman who is younger and on a shorter contract?

Sure - in a vacuum I would absolutely trade Dougie for Miller, but who would pay such an insane premium on top of of it?
