In 2009 the
Sure...there is no doubt that we made big strides. I'm not saying anything different.

But we are pretending if we are making believe that we don't see the problems in heavy tight checking games. It's glaring. And we haven't fully solved the problem yet. I think we can do somethings with line combos to address some of it but I think we still need an addition or two also.
This would be about what you see so far this year. It has nothing to do with past years.

The last time these two teams met the rosters looked pretty different. A bunch of their players play for us now. What happened then is not a good basis for judging what will happen now.

Issue i see is we need to figure out how to break through Rod's line matching when playing in their barn.

We have shown we can beat them in our barn. We did it twice.

We have shown we can hang and beat Washington as well.

Doesn't mean it will be easy, but these potential series are not insurmountable hills to climb.
I don't necessarily disagree but we are looking at these games right now under a regular season microscope.

When the games get tighter, heavier and more violent, which they almost always do in the playoffs...do you think we have the horses as is right now?

I don't think we do.

Edit: also I think Jack and Bratt together in these type of games is a mistake ..you want mess with a Carolina line matching scheme, break up Jack and Bratt.

I happen to know for a fact that not only is @JimEIV no boomer, he’s in the prime of his life. (We graduated high school the same year.)
No way he is as fresh as a spring daisy the way you are. When you look in the dictionary under curmudgeon you see @JimEIV

I don't really know how we are going to react come playoff time, I'm just not assuming everyone is going to wilt.

No one expected McLeod to turn into a playoff warrior.

I don't think all of our bottom 6 guys are going to remain shooting as cold as they have been, and I think Fitz is going to find an extra forward to help as well.

See how Keefe manages these series but I think we have solid odds

This isn’t exactly a menacing group. The 4th line is quite soft.

Look at that 3rd line...

6'2-220. 6'4-220. 6'1-208

Now who are we matching?

Cotter-Haula-Mercer?

6'2-212. 5'11-191. 6'-180

That's 6'' and 65 lbs difference for those three players. That says nothing about the fight in the dog of course...but I rather have that advantage than not.

What team has solved this problem?

If you’re arguing that Carolina has, go to their board and tell them the great news.

They might have a different take on their playoff scoring.

I don’t even know what people are exactly debating. I’m I expecting the Cup? Not without a few playoff round wins and that isn’t easy.

The playoffs are hard for everyone. The forwards definitely could use an addition.

We’re more than 2 months away from the trade deadline, lots of regular season left.

Yeah, that’s about it. Multiple pansies on every other line.

Carolina has won exactly nothing in the playoffs. I'm not sure why they are being propped up as unbeatable in the post season when they constantly lose.

Make more sense to talk like this about Tampa or Florida who have actually won cups
They've made it to the second round 5 of the last 6 seasons and there is a high likelihood that we see them in the first round....

I freaking hate this playoff format btw...

#1 should play #8 and reseed after each round. Wildcard, At large...whatever the hell you call 7 and 8 nonsense is stupid too.

The Divisional play rewards mediocre teams in shit divisions.... it's how Patrick Roy accumulated so many playoff wins when either Boston or Montreal was basically a guarantee to get to the conference finals. ...all while the Patrick Division was beating the hell out of each other in a vicious dog fight.

listing heights/weights as if they mean anything lol

Dougie is a giant and is soft as charmin. Marchand is a midget and is a warrior.

While also ignoring the fact that Svech is a complete ghost every playoffs and has the power forward build and saying Carolina has a "big group" that the Devils can't match

It doesn't matter, we're gonna play good teams in any format. We did this in 2023 as well, it's not gonna matter this year anyway. I'd argue a TB matchup is the worst matchup we could get and they could legit be a wild card team or be the 4/5 in the old format. And in 2012, our longest series was with the 3rd seed with under 100 points and they demolished the 5th and 1st seeds with over 100+ points.

Dougie is the perfect example, he's like 6'6 and 230 pounds and I'd bet everything I own that I could kick the shit out of him with one hand tied behind my back because I'm simply more crazy than he is and he's a wuss.

I hate it too, it's all so people can fill out brackets too. It's really not that hard to put "re-seed" after each round on a bracket sheet but I guess that doesn't look good and people are morons.

we literally split with Carolina AND Washington, did we not?

this "We can't solve them" stuff is so overblown

We actually won the series vs the Caps, Carolina was a split. Caps we won both on the road and Carolina we won both at home...

Caps
10/12 away 5-3 Win
10/19 home 6-5 OT Loss
11/23 away 3-2 Win
11/30 home 6-5 Loss

Carolina
10/15 Away 4-2 Loss
11/21 Home 4-2 Win
12/27 Home 4-2 Win
12/28 Away 5-2 Loss

Game 3 OT goal is why I’ve kept my mouth shut about the guy on this forum all year. I really don’t like the way he plays the game. One of the most selfish players who continues to think he’s an offensive dynamo. The quicker we trade him the better. I’ll take Nemec growing pains over this 9M guy any day.

I'll love him forever for that goal, I like him as a person and he seems like a great guy but yeah I won't be opposed to trying to move on from him.

I think this explains it...

"If anybody wants to know why Gen X is always mad, it's because we had to replace our record collections with a cassette collection that we had to replace with a CD collection that we had to replace with an MP3 collection, and now we need a subscription to listen to music."

Makes perfect sense.
