Hey, Devils fans. How do you all feel about taking in strays? I am a lost sabres fan who just can't handle it anymore. It's so bad. Not just the losing. You get used to that. But the way the organization/franchise has become an absolute joke and laughing stock of the league is just too much for me. So i am looking for a team to support that might actually give me a return on my investment of money, time, etc.
With all of that said, i am wondering if anyone can give me a brief summary of the team. Style of play. How the coaches are doing. Best players. Players you want to ship to the moon. I can absolutely look this all up myself, but sometimes it's easier to get behind something when you hear it straight from the mouths, fingers, keys, whatever of other people. So if anyone is willing, i'd appreciate your perspective for a potential new fan.

Also, i hope this is the right place to post this. If it's not, or if it's inappropriate at all then i hope the mods are able to delete my post. Sorry if i derail your current topic of discussion. Thanks for your consideration.

as a sabhater myself i fully welcome you leave them and join us.....

....now get @sabremike to fully commit as well

More of the same | Some teams are just impossible to shop for. The Devils seem to have everything you look for in a contender. Elite skill at the top of the lineup? Check. Solid depth? Check. Excellent two-way defensemen? Check. Reliable goaltending? Check.

The only Christmas gift this year is Fitz's bonus check.

We'd certainly welcome you aboard, but just curious as to what particularly piqued your interest in the Devils if you don't know much about our team, style of play, best players etc? What draws you to the Devils?

I'll just add that yes Dougie, Palat and Dillon are overpaid, but they are still quality veterans.

They are a fine support group for what is a very talented, but inexperienced young core.

They also chose to come here. Ok, maybe Fitz offered the most cash, but we aren't used to this in free agency. Quality UFA's never came here.

Those of you who said you are a welcoming bunch were telling the truth. There are already so many informative responses. i am reading them all and soaking in the information. Thank you for those who were/are willing to share your thoughts on your team. Sounds like a good time to jump on the bandwagon.

I mean, i am not sure that my heart will ever fully leave the sabres. If Pegula finally sells the team and/or stops meddling with the front office, then who knows. And speaking of @sabremike, if NJ ever acquires Tage Thompson, i think he'd make the transition to full time

Definitely a good question. So my dad was always a big sabres fan. That's why i follow(ed) the team. I really started paying attention in 2005-2006, so the bar was high and it was a slow decline and then drastic plummet from legitimacy ever since. My dad's best friend growing up was a big devils fan. He almost always had on a jersey when we saw him. My favorite, and i still remember this from a young age, was his green, red, and white jersey. That has always stood out in my memory and i think i have always had a soft spot for the devils as a result (of my dad's friend. not the jersey colors specifically).

On top of that, i have bratt and hischier on my fantasy team and they have been the most consistent players for me. I figured, why not look into the team as a whole.

The Sabres ownership does not deserve your loyalty. Sabres fans have my respect. You have to be resilient and maybe a bit of a masochist to root for them right now. NJ is a fine plan B for you. Have fun while you are here.

@1point21Gigawatts

Highly recommend watching this. Yes it’s Chicago but everyone on this board went from six to midnight when this happened. The boys smelled blood.

That was an incredible forecheck leading up to their second goal. Not sure i have witnessed anything like it in a long time. Certainly not while watching the blue and gold.

Yeah it was amazing to witness as it happened. The Jesper Bratt forecheck and hit coming off the bench was chefs kiss. Jesper has been a fabulous player since he made his debut in 2017. He has taken flack from some posters for being “too soft” and not the type of forward you win with come playoff time. Many of us have felt that complaint was overstated considering he is a true engine for our offence. He has become an all around great player and is probably playing his best hockey at the moment.

On another note. I hope you can join us in the GDT for the Columbus game tomorrow. Devils are looking for their first 4 game winning streak since the 22-23 season and you may be just enough to put the boys over the top. Our GDT’s are always well attended and highly entertaining at times

Outside of a hot shooting stretch for Cotter to start the year he and Holtz have that in common.
Cotter could do absolutely nothing the rest of the season and he'd have done more than Holtz did in his time here. Forechecking, carrying the puck into the zone, hitting people... He's 10x more engaged in every game and actually made things happen in the bottom six that Holtz couldn't do on whatever short stint he got on the top lines.

We've won that trade and it'll become more apparent as the season continues.

Is all of this 'move Dougie' talk for real?

Do you guys have any idea how hockey teams work?

We literally went through a year where we thought we walked Severson and Graves bc of cap logic, and lost the guy you're trying to move so that we could spread the wealth around...

And had the single biggest disappointment of a season in franchise history because our Swiss cheese defense couldn't win a game.

Stability trumps whatever the f*** you're doing if we are actually trying to win a cup this year or next, or next.

Thinking that Casey/Nemec can step in and do what Hamilton can do is absurd, in just about every facet.

It's entirely symbiosis at this point, and the only reason we have three stable D pairs is because all six defensemen compliment each other *and* our forwards have gotten more responsible.

I get the 'move the big contract' but clearly Fitz has v the right idea:
Defense first. We have enough offense if we take care of business defensively and just counter attack.

The add at the tdl should be third line energy/grit/speed and leadership and we should be able to get it done for picks or prospects.

Welcome to the madhouse.

Anyway, I think this may be my favorite moment of the season so far:

Though them blocking about 1749290 shots in a row against the rags was pretty sweet too.

All this new fan talk, What ever happened to LokiDog's NJD fandom attempt.. after that playoff series?

He went from the best show in Broadway to here and back.

That was either the most elaborate troll attempt in recent board history......or it just didn't pan out.

(@LokiDog there is still time)
--

Coming from the Sabres is a whole another beast, welcome aboard.

I agree with all the intro recaps on our players, hope that helps.... We welcome all sort of characters. Lot of different players to like on this team. Lot of interesting posters with varying styles of optimism and cynicism (and some doomerism). Optimism is the key ingredient these days. I don't really agree on all the Dougie and Palat casting off ideas, but it's definitely a theme here and has some decent thought rationale for it. I'm more of stability and not shaking the house too much, that's just me.

We've seen @sabremike walking around prudential center, a whole bunch the last few seasons.

This almost feels like a dispersal fan draft, like in the old days when Thrashers had to dismantle.
