Dougie quietly on pace for over 60 points after a slow start. 12 of his 21 points are on the PP, and he has 12 primary points, but to me his game has slowly gotten better as the season has gone on.

For reference, in 2022-2023, 33% of his points were secondary points. 38% of his points were PP points.

He's not doing as good as that season of course, but I feel that after his surgery and all, he's slowly getting back on track.

That Jack Hughes stat about 20 GF 0 GA in his last 10 and the fact he’s on a 125pt pace in the last month should vault him right into the MVP conversation.

I love that Keefe is doing here what he did in Toronto with Marner Matthews and Nylander getting them to be more responsible in the DZ without sacrificing all their scoring ability

I admittedly haven’t been the biggest Jack or Luke supporter beyond the fact they’re both Devils and great players but they’ve fully captured my attention and support this year they both have been revelations. Could still use a little bit less falling and no look passes which they seem to be slowly removing from their game

To piggyback off of what someone else said on the closed thread, I really wonder what the team is thinking regarding Nemec. I wonder if he’ll be a trade piece closer to the deadline if Fitz thinks that this team has what it takes to win it all.

Given what Jiricek just got you can probably acquire the best player available at the deadline for Nemec straight up or possibly get a long term fixture at forward. If it’s the TDL it’s probably a piece for right now if it’s in the summer it could be a hockey trade to help the long term center depth

I think they'll probably end up keeping Nemec. Really don't think they should be giving up on him.

He's missed some time with because of his injury this summer, and after what he showed in his D+1 and his D+2, I don't think you can move him unless you get offered something ridiculous. I still very much think there's a solid player there that could complement Luke extremely well.

Agreed. If they can sign another Haula type so they have support at middle 6 center that’d help a lot

Then you can hold onto Nemo for a few years and see how things play out. Avs played this out and then traded Bo Byram for Mittelstadt. Devils could do the same in a few years

Why would we need to trade Nemec to address center depth? They have two top centers in the league signed long term. Just fill out the 3rd and 4th line centers with short term free agent signings.

They are most likely thinking that he continue to work on his game in the AHL and he is an important part of their long term plans.

They aren't trading him for bottom 6 help.

You won't like the short term free agents. Don't forget we acquired Haula.

I've complained the Devils aren't worth much if they are below the others in win%, but i'll take back my words, since things have changed fast. Just couple wins and we are challenging the nr. 1 spot.

trading Nemec to "address center depth" is insane talk.

There are about 25 or more NHL teams who would kill to have our center depth.

If you want to trade a couple of 2nds or another prospect? okay fine. Nemec is an extremely valuable piece. There aren't any realistic centers I am trading him for.

That doesn't change the fact that the Devils' center depth after Hughes/Hischier is totally absent. Trading Nemec for that makes no sense, but if they can also dump Palat with him for a good player, that's something they have to consider if perma-LTIR isn't available for Palat.

Yeah center depth is perhaps the worst thing going with this franchise right now. When healthy, it obviously doesn't matter, but we kinda don't have any centers at all after our two beautiful boys and Haula.

We very desperately need centers in the organization, at every level quite frankly. Not saying that Nemec is the piece to get us them, but it's not a radical thought given our RD strength.

Nice points, like those above.

I think Nemec is someone this team has to be smart with, don't dangle him out there too prematurely. See how he plays in the AHL right now.

If the knock on him is overconfidence or he's got a massive chip on shoulder due to team circumsstancs that landed him in AHL, that is something that can be adjusted/managed, or something he can grow out of. If he can't manage that over the short window of this season, maybe there would be a reason to move him.

Pure speculation on my part.

From pure paper, it seems like a heretical option, to move him, but if he doesn't take current situation well, it's not an unreasonable option, if the team is judicious about the return quality. Team center depth is terrible after the golden 2+haula and Haula ain't around for as long as those guys l, id imagine.
