Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - offseason edition

Some teams are tough in the traditional sense (The Cats) and some teams are tough to play (The Islanders, Canes).

This team will be much improved. I think the run to playoffs and a somewhat competitive series was vital. They know that can play through injuries and down players.

I think the depth problem was more a North American prospect/AHL problem. Nemec’s rise in the playoffs, plus Casey, the is better defensive depth. The Devils got LaChance, Lenny, Melovsky, and Gritz. If they get another top 6/top 9 and a 3/4 center to push Glass, they should be in good shape.

Wow it's really quiet in here all day for the most part. It's a really nice day here in NJ, congrats everyone for going outside hopefully lol.
It really was nice yesterday

Not sure if this is the right place but could not find one for the IIHF World Championships.

Devils' 2022 Draft Pick Benjamin Baumgartner just scored in the shootout to clinch a 3-2 win over Slovenia for Austria.

Devils no longer hold his rights and a long way from the NHL but good for him.

As someone who watches the EPL even though the times are terrible for an American , they're such a weird ass team to buy for Harris. They're not the usually reclamation projects that he takes up like us when Vanderbeek with the debt or the Commanders with horrid shitty ownership. I think Palace has always been in good hands lol

Always in good hands???

I take it you have never heard of Simon Jordan....

Crystal Palace's real value is as a London based team. Outside of the top 6/7 English institutional clubs, it gets real dicey. A couple bad seasons and they could easily find themselves back in the second tier and their value would plumet. You aren't buying an American style franchise, you're buying into the lucrative premier league and praying that they can stay there until your initial investment is long since paid off. I have absolutely no doubt that they have got their money back, ten fold, since 2015 when they bought 18% stake. No idea if they ever increased that, maybe they own outright now?

Jordan was kinda like Vanderbeek tbh though from what I read and remember at his time at Palace. He did get them out of the Championship recently, he tried the right stuff but it never panned out the way he wanted. The ultimate "I got money to spend and even if I f*** bad, it won't matter" type of owner. But I was more talking about how Palace has been a consistent middle table team compared to Harris's other ventures on sports teams.

Yeah, but it's really just grilling. Smoking is slowly making it's way here, but most people just chuck briquettes in a kettle style (or just gas grill) and cook their burgers/bangers on high heat.

Both have their place. Really depends upon what you want to make. BBQ doesn’t work well on something lean much of the time.

We call grilling “cooking out” here in the south with barbecue being a low and slow and usually smoked process

Having lived both up north and in the US south I think the “cook out” can vary by location. Growing up in thr NY suburbs and spending some summers in Massachusetts a cook out covered any cooking outdoors. I can even recall barbecue being used synonymously with what woukd now be called grilling. It’s a very different world with thr internet. Back in thr stone ages of my youth maybe you could find discussion of any of these terms in a cookbook but that was about it.

Yup, we called it having a barbecue in NJ when we had folks over and were using a grill. Down here in NC, nope - that's a cook out (or grilling or whatever - point is, barbecue is a THING! And I love it!)

I think we mainly grill in the UK because of the shitty changeable weather. Cook fast because it could shit it down with rain any second.

Not un-common to experience winter and summer in one day lmao.

That said, the weather has been great lately. My garden desperately needs rain though.

Smokers won't be affected by the rain. Get yourself a Traeger and set it and forget it.

I still respect and have my pellet but I’m all about my barrel smoker now. It’s just as set and forget as my pellet smoker but has more live fire going on. It can also double as a grill with some small changes so I can sear things off at the end, like a reverse smoked seared steak.

Actually, what we are really into right now is making from scratch Margaritas using key limes. Great and dangerous.

Potentially is a real stretch…the trial has to first end with a not guilty verdict (none of this case got thrown out on a technicality junk) and Fitz then has to be desperate enough/shameless enough to take a massive PR hit when he’s the same guy who hid behind the PR of his own extension presser when this first happened. That’s two pretty big steps to get to potentially, it’s not even a debate until and if step one happens.
NGL, I'm very concerned that Fitz may end up being stupid enough to do this.

Hope I'm wrong in any case...
