A bottom 6 that expensive likely just leaves you with a LOT of regret in about 2 years time.

(especially since you're trying to do it all in 1 offseason, where there is a big cap raise and not many good UFAs). In fact, it feels exactly like how you end up with another Palat.
Not sure that's true? You already have Grits who is cheap.

Of course you can get one more expensive player and go cheap elsewhere. I'd rather do that then to lock into long-term contracts with bottom sixers.

The problem with Palat is he was dreadful away from Jack or Nico. You can't play him down the lineup so he is forced to a top 6 role. But to be honest I think both he and Haula are back. What about signing Claude Giroux to a one a year deal?

Palat-Hughes-Bratt
Meier-Hischier-Giroux
Gritsyuk-(Mercer traded for 3C) - Noesen
Cotter-Glass-Haula

Then you have 4 legit centers and 2 that can fill in if injuries (Giroux/Haula)
Palat is frustrating because the possession and xG numbers look great but he’s just not translating those into goals.

If he was even in the mid 40s for points, you could stomach that contract for one more year. 28 points just doesn’t cut it when you’re playing so many 5-on-5 minutes with Jack or Nico.

I’m still hopeful for 50% retention to Tampa. Take back Sheary, bury him in the AHL, and effectively free up 2 million this year and 3 million next.

this means no more excuses on PP and PK

i really hope our new pp has a lot more movement
The powerplay failed spectacularly in the playoffs but was the third best in the entire league during the regular season. Not sure how much better you want it to get.

I've looked at the UFA class and I shudder at trying to fill out a full bottom 6 from there. I don't think trying to make a number of trades is gonna get great value either.

I think you also don't mess with the guy who, while on the ice, has been by far the most productive PP Dman in the league over the last 2 years.

I think you find 1 3C you really like, and buy enough retention to make him fit for the next 2-3 years.

Meh sorry, I know you love Hamilton but he has to go. He can't move and he can't hit the net anymore. That money can be better used elsewhere.

I am not really seeing a benefit if we still have to retain 50%.

I don’t disagree, but it’s the only way I could see it happening. Unless the Devils take an equally bad contract in return.

I suppose maybe getting someone like Compher or Copp from Detroit would be nice to get a center with size. No guarantees Palat waives there though.

Idk how Rogalski still has a job. No one has done consistently well under him and everyone has gotten better since leaving here, except Vitek I guess

I like this mindset. -Ondrej Palat

well i mean palat never put up numbers like forsberg or anyone that we would be targeting for top line mins and i believe he did get signed before the devils took their step into their window.

If I’m not mistaken, Jeremy Colliton runs the PP! He’s staying with the team I believe.

Both were top 5 in the league.

Also our PP coach did not get fired.

this is what i get for not double checking myself

I wonder if a Kings-Stars-Devils trade could work:

To LA
- Robertson

To Dallas
- Dougie (2m retained)
- 2nd rounder LA
- 2nd Rounder NJ

To Devils
- Turcotte
- Laferriere
- Bourque
- Dumba

From Dallas
- Bourque
- Dumba
- Robertson

From LA
- Laferriere
- Turcotte
- 2nd rounder

From NJ
- Hamilton (@7m)
- 2nd rounder

I would jump off a cliff if I was a stars fan

I’m sure I missed a lot of the discourse yesterday, but I just got to watch the Fitz/Keefe end of season presser and I have to ask - how did Fitz not have a better answer about Quinn? He could be absolutely sure that question was coming and his level of discomfort answering has me…concerned.

I mean I don’t know what you expected him to say, he can’t comment on another team’s player or it’s tampering

I'd be ok with Hamilton for Dumba no retention, if somehow Dallas is ok with that cap hit. He really needs to go this offseason unfortunately. If Nemec/Casey are moved instead to improve the lineup I'll be mad online™.
