Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - 2026-27 offseason part III

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
FWIW...

the caps were already a struggle for the devils, they’ll be a very tough team to beat next year. Disappointing to see a divisional rival improve so much.

Looking at our forward core, I dont see how Mercer / Noesen arent traded.

Grits - Nico - Timo
Jesper - Jack - XXXX
XXXX - Glass - Lenni / Brown
XXXX - Bjug - Lenni / Brown

There just isnt room for all of them. Noesen and Mercer both right handed shots means we wont play them on the LW most likely.

Id rather take a risk with Lenni at 900k then keep the cap hits

I guess its possible they think Brown works with Jack and Jesper and move Timo back to LW. But then it just still needs 1 Top 6 trade

Timo - Nico - XXXX
Jesper - Jack - Brown
Grits - Glass - Lenni
XXXX - Bjug - Noesen !??
why is jack 2C?

Think he would rather not burn the gained cap space on Zary and ia probably aiming higher
Seems to be swinging for the big fish. Our depth scoring is never there though, looking at a team like the Canes, their whole lineup has guys that can skate. I'd like to balance the line up a bit more. Trust in Sunny though

Zery is ehh - mediocre underlyings and not a great skater

I’ve been waiting for a trade for a player who is looking for more ice time rather than the big names set to make big money. An analytic GM should be primed to find these players. Like the Palmeri trade.

I think the Top 6 role is too important to take a risk. I could see them try that for a 3rd liner however

What can we realistically offer to make it worthwhile to Toronto compared to some of the other assets other teams may have on the table? The current going rates have somewhat concerned that we’ll have to wait til the TDL to move these Nemec picks +

Man, with FLA & WSH shaping their forward groups up the way they are (size and skill) and CAR the defending champions who always give us fits ... not to mention TB, MTL, BUF are formidable ...

Devils really need to improve the lineup here. Knies would be a great way to do that.

Bold prediction: We send Mercer with first round picks (perhaps an additional 2nd) to land Robertson. Dallas then flips the picks to acquire Larkin. They can then afford to keep Bourque, as well. I would feel better about this if Yzerman were to receive a roster player though. Detroit should embrace a rebuild but he may be on the hot seat.
