Btw our first drop in the Sunny bucket to get an idea of what he wants to do. Apparently his main goal is cap space.

Markstrom AND Dougie both still available after this apparently
I would be comfortable with our right side being Pesce, Jordan Spence, and Kovacevic if Dougie was moved to clear cap to add a forward. Spence seems like someone Sunny would value with his underlyings.

I like Spence but he does need to be paid. Depends on what we are willing to move and how much he wants

Being a GM is so easy, all Sunny has to do is trade for Werenski, Sign Quinn.

Quinn - Pesce
Werenski - Whoever
Luke - Kovacevic

Easy peasy, anyone can do it

I do think it's worth noting that Helle was, well, not super great last year. Better than Marky for sure, and this was his first mediocre season in a long time, but when goalies go they can tend to go quick. I'd be a little hesitant.

He looked golden to me :D

Hypothetical unlikely trades for Larkin and Q.Hughes.
Assumes the devils get Larkin before the draft and then trade for Q.Hughes later in the offseason if he won’t resign and tells the Wild he wants to go to the devils (more likely with Larkin trade first). So it’s assuming the devils are trading for Quinn at a lower value than the wild did given there’s half a season less of him and he’s only open to the devils. Wild might just play out the season with him at that value but it was hard for me to make it work better given the devils lack of good prospects and young players. We’re also completely emptying the farm.

Larkin before draft: (5 yrs left on contract) - compared to Kyrou trade:
12th overall (slightly more than 16th)
Gritsyuk (slightly less than McMichael)
Siegs or Kovacevic (their choice of which)
Colorado 2028 1st round pick
2026 2nd round pick

Combination of a high pick, a solid young forward with potential, some immediate D help, and a couple other decent picks might be enough. Larkin has more value than Kyrou but not by a crazy amount especially given the force out and no trade clause.

Quinn Hughes later if no resigning compared to Min trade for Quinn:
Mercer (less valuable than Rossi)
Silayev (less valuable than Buium)
Devils 2027 1st (similar or more valuable than Min 2026 pick?)
Vegas 2027 1st (similar value to Ohgren?)

Well, they just turned that 2OA from 2022 into effectively three second round picks between 4, 5 and 6 years later.

So, I could probably argue that a decent roster player obtained in 2022 would've added more value than this to the team.

They did not do that. They got 2 1st round picks in the deal. Not 2nd round picks.

It is possible that a decent roster player would've added more value to the team, it's actually likely. although Nemec did have one season as an average defenseman at ELC value which is enormous. That doesn't mean trading a 2nd overall pick is a good idea. The reason why these picks never get traded is that no one will ever compensate a team properly for upside.

It sucks that the two 1st rounders we got are not top10 protected but, who's to say Vegas doesnt finish outside the playoffs next year ? Same for the Avs in 2028.

Picking in the 11th to the lower 20's range is still a good place to get talent. I could see the Knights having a bad year and keeping their top 10 pick all to follow it up the next season and finishing in the bottom 10 of the standings.

It would be pretty nice if Nemec ultimately gets us a top 5 pick in return if one of those 2 teams plummeted. It's probably not likely but its a possibility.

Even if we maintain all of those picks, which I highly doubt we do, we could easily package our 32nd pick in the next two years with those picks to move into the teens. ;)

if you call a late first round pick “basically an early second rounder” but then don’t call the rangers pick “basically a late first rounder” you’re an incessantly stupid downer and don’t deserve a reply.

There needs to be a simpler way to talk about a late 1st round pick. It is not 'basically a 2nd'. It just isn't even close to a 2nd round pick based on pick trades.

In the 2015 draft, Toronto had pick 24, they traded it for 29 and 61, and then traded 29 for 34 and 68. so they got 34 61 and 68 for 24. This just goes to show the difference between pick 24 and pick 34, a 'late 1st' and an 'early 2nd'.

On a particular discord...according to someone trusted...should Sunny miss out on his trade targets, there is a backup plan in UFA on a short term deal ... he's OLD but it would just be a stop gap
