Devils discussion (news, notes and speculation) - 2026-27 offseason part III

Markstrom for Hellebuyck would be like Korpisalo for Ullmark lol.
For most franchises Markstrom for Hellebuyck would be an all-time, franchise altering change and considered the greatest trade of all time for that team.

I don't think it would be top five for the Devils. Maybe it hits top three.

Trading down for Marty
Turning Tom Kurvers into Scott Neidermayer
Getting Claude Lemieux for Sylvain Turgeon

This organization has pulled out some real winners.

Obviously, we’d have to add to that, including probably a first round pick and maybe even a decent roster player.

Jordan Binnington is not going to be a Florida Panther. That would be the ultimate 'if you can't beat em, join em' bullshit I've ever seen.

The goaltender for team Canada, who probably hasn't stopped replaying in his head that moment ever since is not going to Florida to be the Vincent to the Tkachuk's Hall & Nash.

He is super competitive though... So I dunno. Just an impossible task to get into the head of people I don't know

FLA Beat Writer George Richards: "I think Florida will spend $5-$6m on a starting goalie. Whether that is Bobrovsky, or Jordan Binnington. I think Hellebuyck is out, because what does Florida have to offer now that they traded all their first rounders,"

I know JUST the guy. We can even retain 1 million
Sunny has FLA connections… who knows!

As I described above there’s ton of possibilities if we go in a different direction. It’s also possible the Jack and Luke force their way out at some point in which case it might’ve been better taking someone else.
If they will - sh1t happanes. Devils will be not the first team to win nothing with their core(can for example), Devils will trade their players and will start rebuild. I guess if Hughes*2 will ask for a trade, other players like Timo'n'Bratt will agree for a trade too for having an opportunity to win. I don't want it at all but this is NHL. Devils don't have an opportunity(and reason) to start rebuild now.

Yeah, it's Kypreos, but I wouldn't be against this if the price was low enough. For instance, Kakko for Mercer.

That’s an interesting trade idea. I’d think Seattle would take that offer and run. The counting stats favor Dawson - points, goals, games played. Plus Dawson offers positional versatility that Kakko doesn’t.

If Sunny sees something in Kakko’s game that would make him a good fit in NJ, I’d think a swap with Mercer would work.

We’d really need to acquire someone who could play center at that point though.

Get Shane Wright. Forget Kakko
Both would be cool.....if Wright can learn to take draws. Re: Kakko

Made a list earlier in the offseason about targeting the stupid GMs for trades. Seattle was obviously one of them.....Nemec or Dougie like the rain? What about you Mercer?

I thought it was against men?
