I'll admit was skeptical of Shara when he had a slow start to this season. And I still don't think he will ever be the guy driving the play for his line.

But his recent high-level play and scoring pace have shown that he has the offensive skill to merit a top 6 spot, and he can clearly keep up with and develop chemistry with both Hughes and Hischier. That's valuable in itself.
He is not a line driver. Winning teams have players like him. He also had a busy and very different off season due to COVID, That could explain the slow start. I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of posts next year complaining that the Devils did not sign him to a longer term deal as opposed to the 2 years he signed for after last season.

I couldn't stay up for this one, but glad to see we won.

Looks like the Hischier line dominated.

He won't be cost-effective for long if he keeps raking
Agree. I really think posters are going to be disappointed by the upcoming off season because Fitz and Co, are looking ahead and they should prioritize signing our own players like Shara and Mercer to longer than a bridge deal in the future. I only watched the first and JBoq and Zetterlund were flying and looking at the stats looks like they stayed that way. We also know Fitz loves Tyce from his comments earlier in the year.

Between their play in the AHL as well as their time in NJ, Zetterlund and Boq are in the lineup next year. I think that has been settled.

And given they are late bloomers of sorts, I imagine they are guys that remain cheap for awhiles. That is big for us considering the need to sign Bratt, Sev's and or Graves,, and potentially finding a goalie.

Why did Steve and Dano sound so weird last night? Is the sound quality that bad in Arizona?

Missed this one, looks like Nico was a beast. Someone give me a cliff notes summary.

Nico was, as you said, a beast.

Had a terrific assist to Fabian to net him his first NHL goal.

Later on, Kevin Bahl got his first.

Tatar got a goal off a nifty pass (what else is new?) from Bratt.

SharanGOALvich did SharanGOALvich things netting 2 goals.

Oh and the other Jesper got into the goal scoring act.

it only gets tougher for current and former late round picks. with so many young forwards in the organization, those late round picks might never get a real shot with the devils. bratt was basically gifted a spot in the line-up out of nowhere, because the team was severely lacking in playmakers. then rango fit in nicely with his shooting next to hughes.

gritsyuk might never make it to new jersey. not because of politics or ability. with holtz, mercer, thompson, bastian, stillman, zetterlund, moynehan and clarke the devils have a lot of options for the right wing. gritsyuk is lhs but plays mainly on his off-hand. i could see him being part of a package to acquire a goalie or rhd help from a team, who is more patient to wait for gritsyuk.

Gritsyuk has higher upside than any of them besides Mercer or Holtz.

I beg to differ.

Bratt earned his spot on the roster.

He took the opportunity and he made sure to give the Devils no option but to keep him up with the team instead of sending him to the OHL(?) London Knights where he was originally supposed to report to, if I recall correctly.

let's formulate it differently.

bratt had lesser competition to earn his roster spot. he was good from the get go, but might had to wait much longer for an opportunity on a better team.

My whole point was that you said that he was "GIFTED a roster spot out of nowhere".

That was incorrect which is why I replied.

Lesser competition or not, there was no GIFTING of a roster spot.

If you want to see an example of "Gifting a roster spot", I have one name : Geersten.

i said BASICALLY gifted.

nobody expected bratt to make the nhl roster out of camp, but he offered a trait missing on the roster. same as geertsen.

i am with you, that bratt's play driving/making ability is much more valuable than geertsen's goonery.

Just a quick note our $9 mil #1 DMan only managed 1 SOG on a 6 goal night.

Sportsnet is about ratings. Why would anyone have interest in the game outside of NJ and Arizona?

Nico sucked last year too dealing with all the injuries. I straight up don't care at all about how Dougie's played recently or how he finishes out the year. He was great when healthy earlier on.

So would literally anyone on a good team relative to a bad one. How that is a knock against one of the better forwards *in the NHL* is beyond me. There are plenty of other bad teams that also get to draft in the 6th round. Where are all those guys who got gifted spots?

it's not a knock against bratt. it's just the next generation of devils prospect will have to have more patience. the current roster has better quality, than when bratt was knocking at the nhl door.
