Yeah, as soon as I saw Timo barreling in, I would make that call every time. And you know what he was trying to do there.

on the great open looks in games like this where we don’t score - talking break always, semi break aways, one timers out front where we’ve got time to pick our spots - I can’t help but think that if we would just bear down some more, focus with more urgency on finishing the goals we would bury other teams.

I think it’s a lack of urgency and will power when we are in a game like this or early at home against St. Louis.

This wasn’t a game like Toronto where a lot of shots were contested by the D and we are trying to jam it in against a goalie in tight.

This was in my view poor finishing due to lack of desperation to score. We needed to want it more early. Evidently when we win 3 in a row we can’t bring that same level of desire in game 4.

Those 2 partial break away looks by Luke for example in the first period. If he finishes one of them we win this game. On the second one he tries the exact same shot that was saved the first time.

I just don't see how you can blame Luke not scoring earlier on desperation.

He just didn't get the puck through an opening. That simply happens sometimes.

As for the team as a whole. They completely controlled play through the final 2 periods and put 91 shot attempts toward net.

This is a really weird take after a game like this.

Maybe after the San Jose game or even that first Blues game I could sort of buy this, but not seeing it tonight.

I really wouldn't ve surprised if Cotter was banged up a bit and needed a few nights to rest up. Hopfully the Christmas break provides that for him.

I do think that putting Cotter back with Lazar and trying Tatar with Haula could produce some better results.

Agreed. Did they say Lazar is shutdown until after the break or he's ready for Pitts.. he may be a bit of an anchor until he is 100%

Keefe said he was considering shutting him down through Christmas but they hadn't made any decision yet.

Assume it depends on how he is feeling pain wise since it sounds like a pain management issue

Confident Jack is either dominant Jack or careless Jack. He was both tonight.
The offense has been reliant and flowing through Jack , Bratt & Luke the last few games. It should be a sign for guys without naming names to step up and pot a goal or a nice/hard earned assist. Our bottom 6 needs to step up though the most. This team is looking dumb for rushing Lazar back.

I seriously don’t think Lazar vs Dowling makes any type of substantial impact at all.

Why is it that some fans can’t help but chalk up like 90% of losses to “effort”? Do you actually believe that Luke didn’t make the correct shot location choice because he didn’t have a maximum desire to score? How do you even objectively determine something like this, is there some “effort” or “desire” meter that’s visible to you people?

When you dominate every single category of the game except goals, that’s literally the epitome of effort without execution.

The 2 in the first I’ll agree. The one to start the 3rd is absolutely on him for not scoring.

No but my point is that the bottom 6 needs to be better. They need to chip goals in more because if our top 6 doesn't show up is when we have these games where we get shutout or chasing the game because we still struggle to score the first goal.

10 game pointless streak...woof.

And it doesn't even look like he is that unlucky, for the most part, just kinda not there.

Either he is playing hurt (possible he has taken some maintenance days recently) or he is just breaking down in general

Well he will be back next year anyway

Oh I forgot he has another year... Thanks.

I don’t disagree with that but my point is whether or not it’s Lazar or Dowling I just don’t think there’s any type of difference that really matters.

Team needs some more forward depth to take some of the pressure off of Jack, Bratt and Nico. Mercer has been a huge weak link on the Hischier line over the past dozen or so games, Haula and Tatar both look cooked.

The 4th line is whatever. Need something out of the 3rd line. Noesen is fine there but he needs help. Cotter and Haula just aren’t providing it
