I do like the emotion by Luke at the end of the game. Don't want to read too much into it, but I think it does show somewhat that he's becoming more of a leader on this team. That being said, he's also probably the only player that could've gotten away with that type of reaction immediately after Jack coughs up the puck for an empty net goal.

That was one of the most ridiculous games I’ve ever seen.

The lack of any offense, even just chances, from the back end and the bottom six is getting extremely concerning. Sooner or later that’s going to become unsustainable, most likely once the playoffs roll around. You can’t expect six players to deliver against NHL goalies every single friggin night, because on some nights even they are doing what’s expected of them the puck just won’t go in. The same goes for the goaltending. Sooner or later we have to get a goaltending performance that’s just as good or better than the opponent’s, or it’s going to bite us in the ass when it matters most.

No doubt Fitz recognizes the bottom 6 issues. He wasn’t very subtle about it in his presser. He will make something happen. We see how this team is playing and defending. I truly think they can make a run this year with a couple tweaks.

I think they needed a bit more time. Jack is trying a move there and Allen is running for the bench so quickly because they felt pressed for time.
They shouldn’t have felt pressed for time. There was 1:25 left. That when teams used to wait until pulling the goalie trailing by 1. They had plenty of time to get in the zone and set up a chance.

on the great open looks in games like this where we don’t score - talking break always, semi break aways, one timers out front where we’ve got time to pick our spots - I can’t help but think that if we would just bear down some more, focus with more urgency on finishing the goals we would bury other teams.

I think it’s a lack of urgency and will power when we are in a game like this or early at home against St. Louis.

This wasn’t a game like Toronto where a lot of shots were contested by the D and we are trying to jam it in against a goalie in tight.

This was in my view poor finishing due to lack of desperation to score. We needed to want it more early. Evidently when we win 3 in a row we can’t bring that same level of desire in game 4.

Those 2 partial break away looks by Luke for example in the first period. If he finishes one of them we win this game. On the second one he tries the exact same shot that was saved the first time.

I also think at least a couple guys who break out of slumps too.

Palat for example is playing a lot better after looking totally cooked a few weeks ago

I cannot stand that f***ing team. They’re only below the Rangers
They’re definitely up there.

For me it’s:
1. Rangers
2. Lightning
3. Hurricanes

…after that I might normally say the Blue Jackets but I will give them a pass this year after the horrible Gaudreau tragedy.

Vegas easily in the top five as well. I hate that team.

It's frustrating the team struggles to not win more than 3 or 4 games in a row but they still have been consistent most of the season. Columbus hung on for dear life this game , I'm pretty confident the Devils would beat them in 5 games had they hypothetically been in a playoff series. If a team can win every 2 out 3 games all season/playoffs long then they would be Cup Champions. We shouldn't really be too angry over this loss.

Palat will be riding that for sur. He had some jump (like the others tonight).

Cotter can probably just relax a bit now.. hopefully they come out flying at home...

I really wouldn't ve surprised if Cotter was banged up a bit and needed a few nights to rest up. Hopfully the Christmas break provides that for him.

I do think that putting Cotter back with Lazar and trying Tatar with Haula could produce some better results.

I don’t know if I say it’s a lack or desperation or urgency but I do agree this was as much a lack of finishing as Elvis. Like the Jack chance in the 2nd where he puts it right into Elvis glove or Luke’s chance at the start of the 3rd where he has the entire net besides Elvis pad and shoots it right into Elvis pad. That isn’t getting goalie’d. That’s throwing away your grade A++++ chances
