Love me some david clarkson. Assuming he's going to re-sign in jersey?

Not that next year's bruins could afford him anyway

he'd be a good fit, since you wouldnt be relying on him to be your #1 scorer. not so much here, though

I was plenty happy with our team defensively. We really cut down Boston's opportunities; our defense gave us a chance to win. HOWEVER ........ I'm not quite sure if I watched the same game as all the folks on here who are claiming the offense looked good and Rask was just unbeatable. Sure we had 40 shots (not including the 2 posts of course), but how many actual scoring chances? Including those 2 posts, around 5-6 scoring chances. So we take 40 shots but only get 5-6 scoring chances. It's because our team has the David Clarkson syndrome right now. He is rubbing off on them (gain the zone, blind wrist shot into the goalie) Rask was challenged maybe 5 times out of our 40 shots. I could live with the 40 shots we had if we actually had guys in front of the net looking for rebounds, however the shooter never gives that opportunity as mentioned before with the Clarkson syndrome this team seems to have. We need spread the goalie out more with our chances like we did with the first post that was hit. That was a beautiful play and that is what we need to do to score. I know we will get back to playing devils hockey, as soon as this Clarkson syndrome wares off.

This.

To lose a game on an unlucky goal, I can bear it.
But to lose 15+ games when outshooting the opponent, hitting 2+ posts each game and conceding a goal on a deflected puck, that's really something rare.

Jagr drove to the net which was a good hockey play. Good things happen when you go to the net.

Call me crazy, but I feel that Sullivan is going to spark this team. I have no reason to think that other than a gut feeling. Maybe its just false hope, I don't know, but I can't help but think it.

With what they showed tonight, even just a little extra kick of offense or creativity may be enough to get some traction here.

You're crazy. Sullivan will be all smiles, but the pain will still be there.

Take my wife - please!

If that's your definition of "a good hockey play", the Devils probably made twice as many as the Bruins last night.

And got no goals because an overall lack of skilled players. Hope sully can help.

Bruins got the bounce and get a lot during the season because they are a much better and deeper team.

Bingo.

You create your own bounces and we don't get any cause we can't create **** offensively.

We keep playing like this and Kovalchuk doesnt come back till the last 2 games of the season we'll be in line to have the 8th pick in the draft.

Wich is perfectly fine by me.

Package some solid, like Merrill + 1st, move up and select one of Drouin, MacKinnon, Nichuskin or Barkov and I'd be more then happy with that end result.

If not, I'd like to land Shinkaruk.

rank up 4 slots in the lottery and we're right back at 4th.

Moar Larsson?

Doesn't the lottery winner automaticly land the 1st overall pick with the new CBA or am I smoking too much of that potent stuff?

If you guys remember from the 2011 season, the Devils really didn't take off until they suffered a super frustrating loss to the Flyers. It was a 2-1 loss where they played probably their best game in months but they just couldn't catch enough breaks in the game. It was also the first game where Marty was in vintage form. He had been having a lot of trouble finding his game and Hedberg was picking up a lot of the starts prior. Whatever the case, I'm hoping they can use last night as a springboard going forward like they did with the Flyers game I'm talking about.

I know most people are going to look at the game last night and harp on the lack of execution and skilled plays. But let me ask you this. What good is scoring 4 goals (Tampa game for example) if you're just going to suck in every other facet of the game? This has been the major issue with the Devils for weeks now. Yeah, they're short on skill and are having trouble scoring. That much is obvious. But the offense will only come with a team like this if the right things are done in other areas of the ice. The breakdowns this team has been suffering, the individual play, that's not how you win games.

Boston was without Bergeron but they're still a super deep, highly skilled well coached team. New Jersey played them straight up last and really took their turns controlling the pace of the game. The attention to detail defensively was really nice to see and they truly played like a 5 man operation last night. I can honestly say that this was one of their top games this year. I really wasn't sure if they had this type of game left in them, but I thought they did a tremendous job.

Keep in mind, NJ essentially scored 2 goals last night. They created those chances, but the post had other ideas. Those pucks go in and we're all talking about NJ's best game of the season. What's better is that aside from a couple of flurries, Boston really didn't get much going overall. New jersey played a tight game and imho, I think they deserved the win. I really do.

The trick now is to bring this same game to the next 11. If they do, they're going to win games, starting tomorrow as a matter of fact. I've been pretty down about this team, and rightfully so, but they may have just figured it out last night. It really was a tremendous effort when you examine the game closely. They're getting close. Just gotta keep it up.

It's sad to see a player just lose it so quickly. Put a fork in him.

The amount of vitriol Clarkson is getting on these boards right now is absurd. He is a third line guy being placed in a top 6 role due to injuries. When he is slotted in his proper role he is the kind of player every team in the league wants.

And all that being said, he still leads the team in goals. Meanwhile, someone who is supposed to be a top 6 forward and just signed a max contract for $5 mil a year has less goals and less overall points.

I get that people might be worried about his next contract, but he doesn't have it yet and at this rate it probably won't be as high as originally thought because he has come back down to earth. Quit scapegoating the guy.

its perfectly acceptable to throw clarkson under the bus when waaaay too much is expected of him, but god forbid someone says that about larsson. makes sense.

the only players playing game that suits them best are patty and kovy. and kovy not even on his correct postion. I am fully aware that clarkson made some bone headed plays last night, but he’s a bone-headed player and always has been. its getting obvious that everything about the beginning of the year was a mirage, including his ridiculous goal scoring pace. if anything, im glad he’s playing like **** since he’s just driving his price down.
