Not with a different team70-80P player (as a 2C no less) AND a top Selke candidate year after year
he couldve signed for $14M x7 as a UFA
Is it any worse than paying $10.587 mil on a 36 point defenseman? Any good player is going to cash in at some point. Is paying a 30 plus year old Robertson $14 mil going to be any better? It's just the reality of a rising cap. If Hischier signs with NJ for anything close to $12 mil per that's a great deal for the team regardless of term. Reducing him to simply a "70 point player" does him a disservice. You don't have to watch NJ games, just accept that like Dallas fans, NJ fans are the harshest critics of their own team. If he wasn't worth it to the fanbase it would be pretty obvious.Seems like a lot for a 70 point player but for 5 years its understandable. I always liked Hischier and the Devils sure as hell need him. No wonder Robertson wants $14 mil from Dallas.
starting this Sep 16, yes.... we're still beforeNot with a different team
Starting from october 1st (iirc), the max terms are going from 8 years when re-signing, 7 years when going to a new team to 7 years and 6 years respectively.
I'd rather have Wyatt Johnston at 8.4 millions per.Worth every penny
That’s cool and I’d rather have mcdavid at 12.5 million per year but this thread is not about Connor mcdavid or Wyatt Johnson. It’s about Nico Hischier and he’s worth every penny of his new contract.I'd rather have Wyatt Johnston at 7 millions per.
Yes, and I'd rather have Celebrini on an ELC than either of them. You can't really compare apples and oranges. What's Celebrini getting on his next deal? What's Johnston getting on his? When Johnston is 28 he is going to rake Dallas over the coals. He will be worth it but it will seem outrageous at the time.I'd rather have Wyatt Johnston at 8.4 millions per.
You said "as a UFA". He's not a UFA, he still has one year left on his current deal.starting this Sep 16, yes.... we're still before
There's always the sign and trade. That still will allow for a seven year deal. You said "as a UFA". He's not a UFA, he still has one year left on his current deal.
as yes, my badYou said "as a UFA". He's not a UFA, he still has one year left on his current deal.
Obviously, I was just addressing the premise of him signing "as a UFA" (i.e. suggesting he hits free agency). There's always the sign and trade. That still will allow for a seven year deal.
You are correct but it's a distinction without a difference for what that poster was saying.Obviously, I was just addressing the premise of him signing "as a UFA" (i.e. suggesting he hits free agency).
Many of these young players deals were signed a year or two ago only.Yes, and I'd rather have Celebrini on an ELC than either of them. You can't really compare apples and oranges. What's Celebrini getting on his next deal? What's Johnston getting on his? When Johnston is 28 he is going to rake Dallas over the coals. He will be worth it but it will seem outrageous at the time.
He gets moved before Sunny lets him walk for free. And I believe Sunny will still be running the ship.I think it makes sense for him.... if the Devils arent contenders by then, he can still sign elsewhere while still being a very sought after productive UFA.
Cap may be over $155M in 2032! He could easily sign for another 5 years at god knows how much.
I agree. So, about this Maclin Celebrini kid....I think this a very solid deal. $11.7M (starting next year) for an ideal 2C while Jack's on a bargain contract? I think that's pretty fair. They've got everyone locked up, but I think they need a few more major pieces to be a legit threat.
