Devil's Advocate Poll

i'd say make the playoffs

why?

because it's a perfect year to make the playoffs

we'd have a first round matchup vs VAN or CGY...meaning if we play our game we should be heading to the 2nd round

from there...you'd face the winners between ANA/WIN or MIN ... again i'm confident we could take all 3

it's the Western Conference Finals that could be tricky facing either STL or CHI

but this year is as good as any and should be an easier playoffs than last year

I would say our biggest challenge will be beating the Ducks, not Chicago without Kane. If Kane is back, then Chicago would be the toughest team to beat.

With this team, definitely playoffs. Even with our current defensive shortcomings, we're too good of a team not to make some noise in the playoffs. Also we don't know what will happen in the off season, or who we'll lose or gain. Even if we pick up McDavid/Eichel, who's to say they would be up to their potential while this team is still in it's window? And even if they were, who's to say our team would gel the same next year, or the year after? With this group, I'd rather keep going now, rather than banking on "maybe" later on down the road.

I think Kane is projected to be till the 3rd round. so hopefully st. Louis knocks them out cause once he's back they will be very very good

Cup guarantee

McDavid

Playoff guarantee

Eichel

Not necessarily. Look at the Penguins, they have Crosby and Malkin and they have only one won cup several years ago. Having a generational player doesn't mean you are a lock for the cup. That said, because the Kings have a strong foundation and a good system, either of those players would put us over the top.

As long as the player is a good fit and responsible in his own end. I don't think the superstar players make as much of a difference in hockey as they do in sports like Basketball. Need an entire team with a strong defense.

I think you guys are putting way too much stock into guys who have never played an NHL game. The chance for them not living up to the hype is greater than them actually living up to it. I'll be honest, I don't follow prospects but history suggests what I just said is true. For every Crosby, there is a Daigle or Stefan.

That was the order I would choose things, not saying it would guarantee a cup.

Guaranteed cup.
Guaranteed McDavid
Guaranteed playoffs with shot at cup.
Guaranteed Eichel.

I'll take playoff games. I just don't have a hard on for prospects like so many people on here do. I remember when that was all there was to discuss around here. The future. The future is now. Get in and see what happens. There are no sure things in life. But one thing is certain. The Kings will not be winning the cup finishing in >9th place.

BTW, somebody else had made a remark in another thread but did anyone expect the Kings to win the Cup in 2012 or 2014? I wonder what this poll would've looked like then. Take the playoff games even with this bi-polar team.

PuckU and I did among one or two others though there was allot of mocking and ridiculing being thrown our way at the time.

the most battle tested playoff team in years and you guys are willing to vote for a prospect, even of this pedigree, instead of playing for the cup ???? none of the can't miss kids have as many rings your boys not crosby, ovie, tavares, and there is always a chance they just don't pan out or God forbid they get hurt

Slightly ot but I still have a signed copy of the SI issue with Bobby Carpenter on the cover with the title "THE CAN'T MISS KID". Where the whole thing started.

If not for the better chances of future cups, choose to draft one of them simply for the commodity and eventual novelty.

If the Kings did get McDavid, you could trade the guy, I'm guessing get rid of any bad contract you want with him, and make a really good team for next season and beyond. Not on the level of what Quebec got for Lindros, but maybe the modern day equivalent, with the cap considerations and all that.

Guarantee at least the 3rd round, and who knows after that, I'd take that over McDavid. Guaranteeing me McDavid vs. just a playoff spot on the other side? Keep him, trade him, it's tough to pass that up.

You folks are crazy. The only possibility of having a shot at winning the cup this season is getting into the playoffs. This team here today in front of us right now is built for playoff hockey. I know these kids have a lot of hype but you roll the dice with any prospect. Injuries, adjustments, chemistry and any number of other variables need to fall in to place.

Believe it or not, I actually like this team and believe they are as capable as anyone at winning another championship. I know it sounds crazy.
