I would DUMP Blackwood at this point just because I don't want any controversy with him playing more than he should because the coach likes him more. And because I'm f***ing so fed the f*** up with the constant ''Ohhh, he's gonna bounce back'' I've been hearing for the better part of 10 years now. Whether it was when Marty first got bad and then the Cory decline. I think the only years we didn't have to worry about it the first 2 years after Marty left the team and Cory was still elite. If I am being honest, I would STILL go for Kuemper/Campbell and dump Blackwood on some poor bastard team for whatever we can.
Vanacek is better than both current Avs goalies.
the Avs have an all-star team in front of their goalie...its a bit different.
I agree on Kuemper. If they could dump Mac, I would be all over a Kuemper/Vanacek tandem. That's more than sufficient. I have a feeling they're done though and they'll be rolling with Mac/Vanacek. I still think Mac has the upside, but he's just too much of a head case and too unreliable for team that has been floundering in net.
Toronto could gamble on the potential. Mac has the physical ability to carry a good team.
Why? He's not as good as Vanecek.Would rather it be Samsonov, but I will take it.
Did we just get another Wedgewood?
okay...that's fair.Ehhh we still wouldn't have been close to the playoffs with average. Average would've gotten us in the mid 80s but also tbf the Jack and Dougie injuries hurt and Recchi's a moron.
Well that's Detroit's problem now.I wonder if we were allowed to talk to Husso and we did and he wanted $4.75 million and we were like f*** that. Because within 30 minutes of him being traded and extended by Detroit we made this trade.
Whatever poster said Husso was gonna get $4-$5 million, who I scoffed at (sorry I forgot who it was), well the joke is on me.
I NEVER thought he'd get THAT much. Not even close!
What the f*** makes Husso worth that much? He's had one good year and one HORRIFIC year in the NHL. He's already 27.
When Campbell and Kuemper see that they're gonna be thinking ''How is that guy worth that much? He's been in the league for 2 years and he absolutely blew in his first year. If he's worth $4.75 million for 3 years then I'm definitely worth $6 million for 5-6 years or even $7 million per''.
Vanecek is also only like 26 (he's a little older than he seems) and Wedgewood is now THIRTY years old.No. Vanecek has a .908 in both of the last 2 seasons. He's a consistently average NHL goalie.
I can live with average. Hopefully he can at least maintain his current production.No. Vanecek has a .908 in both of the last 2 seasons. He's a consistently average NHL goalie.
Team has $9.5M tied up in goaltending heading into the season and none of it is signed after this season. How is that looking up? Going to be in the same spot same time next year.okay...that's fair.
I think Recchi was just as much a problem as our Goaltending issues.
So he's gone.
And we have an Average Goaltender.
Things are looking up.
Re-sign whoever plays the best of these two guys and have that person and Daws as your 2023-24 tandem. Or get someone else next offseason when (ideally) the goalie market doesn't have total junk in it.Team has $9.5M tied up in goaltending heading into the season and none of it is signed after this season. I think Samsonov has the higher upside. I know he hasn't put it together yet, but I think he will. I think Washington obviously liked him better too. Why? He's not as good as Vanecek.
He's been outplayed by Vanecek behind the same team for 2 years now.
The only thing he's got that Vanecek doesn't is a higher ceiling and the chances of him hitting that ceiling are far past dwindling.
Samsonov has been worse than Blackwood in their NHL careers. Vanecek is still a question mark, but it would have been worse going in net with two Blackwood's that were BOTH EIGHT-NINETY-SOMETHING goalies last year.
The headcase stuff goes beyond the injury (vaccine fiasco, inconsistent play prior to the injury, etc). Also, its questionable to say the least whether there was anything actually physically wrong with him when he came back from the original injury last year and put himself back on the shelf shortly after.I just don't know if it's being a "headcase" or the injury stuff hampering him. At least he should be fully healthy going into next year and we finally get an answer

It's also worth mentioning that Ruff leaned on Blackwood way too much early on in both of his seasons behind the bench. He started out well but flamed out after a little bit.
