St Louis dangling Dunn and Tarasenko clearly have some opportunities available to them to navigate the expansion draft. I don't know what those are so I can't really say what their best course of action is but I'm guessing a 3rd and a mid level prospect for Dunn is not enough, as Dunn at least has value to them as expansion draft fodder.

Do we know who the selection would likely be if they traded Dunn?

After we got Graves I do not want Dunn. Go all out on Hamilton and if we strike out maybe inquire on a established RHD on a 1-3 year contract ? Giordano (although not RHD ) has one year left. He would be a good mentor and perfect for contract length

Not many others here I don’t think want Tarasenko but I think he would help out a lot. Helps the PP and a legit trigger man for Hughes. Only has two years left on his contract . I do t think the cost will be huge if zero retention .

Yeah we really can't get anymore D until after the expansion, otherwise it would screw up our protected list. I know obviously you can throw Sea a pick to not choose someone, but the better the player you are asking them not to take, the better the asset you will need to give them.

So unless it's trading a guy like Wood or Seig to a team that doesn't have enough exposed or something along those lines, I don't expect any big trades in the next 3 hours.

This. Nothing against Dunn but we don't need to tie up a slot on D with another middle tier defenseman, we need to go big with the next one, if it ain't Hamilton then find one through the trade market, but we need a stud on the blue line.

I honestly have no idea where the final sale price ends up on him. Almost nothing would surprise me. It could easily be higher than a price I'd be willing to pay

I really don't think it's as underwater as people think. It doesn't scare me a ton. As a 3c, I don't think it's awful, all things considered. If they are offering a good sweetener like Foote or their first, Id probably do it.

So it really just depends on whether you think he can play a competent 3c role for a couple of years.

It really feels like nhl teams may be going back to opening up the checkbook, too

If im taking an overpaid 3C and something extra, I would rather get Henrique back tbh then TJ. But would love either of them as cap dumps who can still play 3rd line / PK time and we get a good piece with it.

That's fair. And Henrique is probably a better bet to stay afloat longer and there's still a chance he could bounce back a bit

I kind of like the idea of bringing back Larsson.

Bring back Larsson as your 3RHD and if/when you move Subban Larsson easily slots up to 2RHD.

Sign a Larsson, resign a Carrick or Tennyson to stash in the AHL.

Smith - Severson
Graves - Subban
Siegenthaler - Larsson

Move Subban

Smith - Severson
Graves - Larsson
Siegenthaler - Carrick/Tennyson/Walsh

Huge fan of Larsson and think its so much more reasonable then us getting Hamilton. I think he solidifies our PK and IMO is perfect for Top 4 minutes.

I don't think we can really say cause Tarasenko is also in trade rumors, so the offers for Dunn / Tarasenko / cost Seattle is demanding is probably gonna drive their final decision.

FWIW this is the St Louis athletic beat writer's last tweet on the subject

If we find a dman we like, we don't have any protection issues. I'm not overly concerned about the sunk cost of a third in exposing Siegenthaler
Is Dunn that good on D that we give up assets to get him and then assets to protect him? Essentially trading for him twice?

If it's a blockbuster trade, adding an extra 3rd obviously isn't an issue, but say we add Dunn. We need to protect Sevs, Dunn(or better), Smith and Graves. Would Seattle take a 3rd to NOT take any of those players? If the player is a lot better than Dunn, the lowest guy is Graves, what would we have to give them not to take Graves, as much as it was to get him? If not, why wouldn't Seattle take him, he is obviously worth that much and they get him for nothing.

Edit: not as much of a problem as I thought. Go get some D.

Smith doesn't need protection.

And if you bring back Larsson and Heriquue and you get to start over from Before Shero to fix all the wrongs of the world:laugh::nod:

Parise back as well, lets trade for the contract of Clarkson.

Then lets find Ponikarovsky and DJ Dainus for pregame locker room tunes.

I just don't think Larsson fits this system...you have to be able to skate and he really cannot

Its part of the reason why Butcher was scratched basically all year IMO
