Devils 2021-22 offseason team discussion (news, notes and speculation) - part II

I think they would want an NHL player in any deal for Tkachuk.

I’d send Bratt if that allowed us to send over the Islanders pick instead of 4. And then pretty much any prospect not named Mercer.

Bratt hurts to lose but he would be good there and help them plus we have enough pass first speedy guys.

Tkachuk Is just what the doctor ordered for this team. He will physical and him and Wood will give teams nightmares. Plus putting him with Hughes would probably do wonders. His make up is almost too good to be true.

I know the old adage that you have to give up something good to get something good but giving up someone with Bratt's abilities for Tkachuk who is known for his "physical-ness" and "nastiness" and all the other buzzwords that some here are spouting just doesn't seem like a good exchange. Just saying.....

I thought the same. I think that there are trades available for Calgary that would involve legit nhl players going back. There wouldn't be a real reason to go full Destructo unless they also know they aren't bringing back Johnny G.

Bratt going back would make a lot of sense. Maybe Zacha instead. I could also see a rostered bottom six guy go as well asking with whatever 1b asset gets traded

Kuokannen ( I would think Fitz would prefer Kuok but Cgy might insist on Bratter )
Walsh

Might be a overpay but i'd kill to have Tkachuk

Players who Tkchuck has better PPG than: Nico, PLD, Andrei Svechnkov, Laine. He's worth a lot more than Bratt and the Isles' pick. Only Mercer shouldn't be on the table so far as prospects/picks are concerned.

What about goals and points?

I’d probably trade Bratt for Tkachuk, but it seems circular to trade arguably your best winger to add another winger. You’re getting an improved player, but opening the same hole you filled.

Would much rather give a package around Zacha/Wood/Kuokannen, the Islanders’ 1st and any prospect not named Mercer (Holtz, Foote, Mukhamadullin, Clarke, Walsh).

I'm sorry but I just have to laugh at the guy quoting stats from 2 weeks in the AHL as a teenager switching to smaller ice as if that is somehow some sort of barometer of anything

In a vacuum Tkachuk is certainly an upgrade over Bratt, but it's closer than a lot of people think. Yeah he might get 15 more points than Bratt does in a full season, but how much does that actually improve the team?

Like said in the post above, the point is to add players to the top-6. We only have three true top-6 players right now, possibly four depending on how you evaluate Sharangovich. Swapping one of our best forwards for a slightly better forward isn't a move we should be making, we should be building a top-6 by bringing in new players. Not shipping out the few we already have.

I would rather trade Zacha + Isles 1st + another good asset (Boqvist, Kuokkanen, Walsh, etc). Sell high on Zacha, keep Bratt and the 4th OA. I would also put next years 1st (lottery protected) on the table.

I'm sorry, but if the ask is Jesper Bratt and a pick then I'll fly over just to drive him to the airport.

Tkachuk is in a different stratosphere to Bratt. Not even close.

it's not the points that makes me want him, it's the edge to his game that we desperately need. how soft are we at the net?

this past season he had 22 tipped shots. our lead tipper? wood with 13

My offer to Calgary for Matthew Tkachuk:

Alexander Holtz
Shakir Muhkamaduhlin
Janne Kuokkanen
NYI 2021 1st round pick

um, no thanks.

edit: actually, jack and tkachuk are good friends right? My worry is his contract expires after next year and his current contract is already at 7m. Would he re-sign for a slight raise and not ask for like 12+ mil? He hasn't exactly proven he's worth a massive contract yet. He had 1 good year only and hasn't done much in the playoffs tbh.

I’m sure I missed this, but what were peoples thoughts on Ekman Larsson dependent on the price?

I would assume it would start around Butcher + Islanders first and build from there.
