Just hope Zacha makes his haters eat crow. Why so much hate for this kid. You would think he drowned a litter of kittens.

I can't think of a Devils fan that hates him.

But, our fans have very high expectations for him at 6th overall.
Especially when players drafted later than him are tallying much higher numbers this season.
Ex: this 2nd round pick

Though, stats are not everything. (don't tell that to the analytics herd).

No no no, if you raise any criticism or concern over the pick and how his numbers are projecting so far in his junior career you're a hater who considers him a bust. Get it right.

I read the post more as people who aren't Devils fans hating on Zacha than Devils fans. I think all Devils fans want Zacha to succeed whether they agree with the draft pick or like where his development is at right now. I don't think any Devils fans hate Zacha, but there do seem to be some folks on the main boards who have an agenda against Zacha, but those kind of things are why I rarely venture to the main boards.

Christian Fischer was hardly a 2nd round pick...And in a deep draft like last year I'm sure there are going to a few very good players coming out of that 2nd round...

Still makes me sick we traded down our #36 and took a goalie...:shakehead

It's just kinda silly to look at an 18 year old's numbers in junior and use them as a huge indicator of how good of an NHL player they'll be. Were you ready to say Reid Boucher was better than Scheifele or J.T. Miller or other players because he scored 62 goals? It's just silly to do any second guessing yet. Sure, you're entitled to do it. But it's pretty meaningless.

I was fuming mad when I saw we picked a goaltender there and also that we traded down, there were a lot of talented forwards still on the board for sure.

But, I like MBW's season and potential so I'm not as POd now as I was last June.

But I still would not have traded down and taken a goalie at that spot.

You say that like if he had 150 points right now you wouldn't be drooling.

It's meaningless and it's also not meaningless. It's dumb to draw overarching conclusions, but it's totally natural to raise legitimate concerns or highlight questions about the state of his production.

Oh I'm definitely being a hypocrite haha..I would buy into the hype big time and claim he's a clear bona fide 1st liner next year if he had 150 points. But in reality that wouldn't be the right thing to do either.

I could see if Zacha looked abysmal and wasn't producing at all while people drafted below him were lighting the world on fire..But Zacha had solid numbers. He wasn't drafted to light up junior. He was drafted because of his tool set (that pretty much no one else in the draft has) and the potential he has if he can put it all together. He's done nothing that would indicate he won't put it all together. I'm not making judgements yet and I feel that's the wisest way to go about it.

It's all looked at in context, not just look at the numbers and go "ones greater than the other". I'd assume either of those compared players had relatively better draft+2 years, so no.

And it's not second guessing when I didn't want the pick pre-draft. I've said before on here, I think he'll turn out to be a fairly consistent 15-25g, 40-45 point player. Which is certainly a useful top 6 player. I just think we could have done better at the pick.

Directed at me? I've been a big Boucher fan since he was drafted and was one of the few arguing that his down 14-15 was largely a result of bad luck.

Absolutely...I was going to mention you in giving credit sort of way.
There was a time where only you and I were still on board with Boucher.

I'd say a vocal minority was hollering TRADE BOUCHER while the silent majority was still saying give him some time.

Interesting read except for the fact that it's not true that only Kane has more goals than Palmieri (out of US-born players). It's Kane, Pavelski, Palmieri

Debating if my hot take should be "Just another example of how under the radar Pavelski is" or "Burnside is dumb lol."

excuse me, I don't recall ever being down on boucher. then again, I am not the most vocal poster here

I want Elias to be resigned this summer. He deserves one last shot to prove he belongs on an NHL roster and to prove he can contribute and be an effective player. I think he could be a nice 3rd liner that puts up 30-40 points and plays on the power play.

There were some that were beginning to think he wasn't going to cut it on the pro level. I think everyone who thought that is very happy to eat crow on him.

I know I was doubting him a bit for a little while there. I am beyond happy to be wrong and seeing him succeed right now. Kid looks legit right now.

Meh

I think it's a gamble at best.

Best case scenario is he's a 30-35 pace point player over 82 games, that probably won't play anywhere near 82 games, as he's starting to break down a lot now.

Worst case scenario is he's an under 30 point player or worse, that we're holding onto and have to keep in the lineup like another washed up passenger like Tootoo and Ruutu this year, Zubrus of the year before, Salvador before that, etc.
