I still believe trading Severson would be a mistake in the long run. He has all the tools which he has flashed at some point in his two seasons as a pro. We are seeing improvement in his game lately, especially offensively. This has been mentioned before but it would be good to see him with Greene again. I think Larsson is good enough to run his own pair and spread out the ice time better. I'm sure Severson has been and will be asked for in any trade talks for young forwards. We'll see if Shero bites or decides to let Damon continue to grow in the organization.

I picked up Wedgewood for my fantasy team yesterday. He's either going to make or break my playoff run tonight.

In the pregame show Deb said Grubauer played for Carolina last night.

When will msg finally fire her?

The whole broadcast team is bush league.

I give MacLean and Daneyko a little bit of a longer leash because they're relatively new to broadcasting. MacLean has recently been able to talk in a full sentence without saying um or stuttering so that's progress.

Onto the next season then. At least the Olympics will make this off-season feel a little less long.

I like the way you think :) I forgot about the Olympics.

I thought you were talking world cup of hockey, then I remembered there is a summer olympics this year.

I'm still pissed that the world cup of hockey starts in early September, rather than in late August like previous years. It also will push NHL training camps and the regular season back a week longer than most years.

I'll still enjoy watching it, but I want some hockey in August.

lol I was gonna say we're not playing in the Olympics till 2018 if then but you obviously meant the non-hockey (Summer) ones. They are doing that dopey World Cup of hockey during the preseason next year too though, though it's less meaningful to me than the WBC in baseball. At least it's all nations there instead of just congolomerates of teams. It's almost like it's a trial run to see if they can do without the Olympics in South Korea (I think that's where 2018 is).

For me it's baseball that'll take my mind off the hockey void but it wasn't the case every year when the Mets weren't competitive. The hockey offseason is painfully long when you don't make the playoffs but in 2012 it seemed like hockey was 24/7/365 between the playoff run, then no real break before the draft and UFA. Of course a meager two-month offseason then turned back into a six-month one thanks to Bettman and Fehr.

The most odd thing about the lockout was that turned out to actually be our longest offseason since the 04-05 lockout.

We've missed the playoffs 5 times now including this year, and those offseasons were still shorter than the longest season we've played in the last 6. Back i

Back in 96 and 04, the world cup started in late August. Not sure why it has to start in September now. And the last time we had one in 04, the lockout hadn't officially started yet. Training camp was still set to open just days after the tournament ended.

Yeah, the timing of the World Cup of hockey is odd. I'll watch it, but it's weird timing for sure.

I like the summer olympics better actually. I'll watch the world cup but I'll only get really invested if Cory is the USA goalie.

What does management have to do about it? He isn't healthy yet so odds are won't see him again this season.

I don't feel like digging it up to see if there was a blog, but I thought I saw that he might be ready to practice this week.

Assuming his conditioning is close to where it should be and he's cleared, I think they might actually put him back in, even if he doesn't get enough practice time. Just because this might be the end of the road for him.

I think he'll get a PTO or possibly a one year deal from some team, just because he's Patrik Elias. But since he was injured for all but a month this season and is 40, I'd have to assume that he's probably not getting the best pick of where he plays.

Or he could just retire completely.

The fact that it seems to be a recurring knee issue doesn't bode well for him. It's a shame to see his career end this way. Even if he does come back for another year, it's going to be painful to watch.

Is this the first time he got surgery for this knee issue? It might of put him back together enough to have one more successful year if so.
