Main board:

"Ray Shero has made some really great moves this year"
"Yeah, but in Pittsburgh he was awful"
"He's doing well in New Jersey"
"But but but Pittsburrrrgh bad moves ruin team worst GM"

Honestly, I don't care what he did in Pittsburgh. At all. It's a different situation in NJ, and he's been making all the right moves so far.

We knew what to expect going forward that no goalie will rival Marty's puck handling skills, but between Kinkaid and now Wedgewood, they are miles ahead of Cory , which may be the only downside on Cory's game.

Really nice to see Wedgewood transition in so seamlessly and comfortably these first 3 games. Keep riding him until the end of the year/Cory gets back.

The only part of his Pittsburgh tenure I care about is the bad drafting cause like you said the overall mission statement's completely different from when he took over there. I hope Castron's better than the guys he had drafting in Pittsburgh though.

Trading-wise though he's had magic dust going, giving up basically a 2, 3 and Matteau for two young RW's that can be part of the solution here.

Wow I really regret looking at that main board thread. I would love for someone to tell me why Flyers fans are pompously posting like they have been the Blackhawks the past 5 years  Also it's unbelievable how many poster look at the Devils and go "NO TOP PROSPECTZ SO U SUCK 4EVER"

Paul Castron being around puts my mind at ease, when it comes to these upcoming drafts. I do think we will be coming away with some great talent from these next few drafts.

Like Jim said a couple weeks/months ago, when we finally do make a big push for the playoffs, nobody is going to really see it coming. Quite frankly I don't give a **** what pompous Flyers fans on the main boards think. I know they're not the only ones, I think there were some Oilers or Leafs fans talking about needing top draft picks in order to be successful. The irony.

I mean we do need some more top-end potential prospects, but they will get here. I have confidence in Castron's track record in Columbus. What's that quote from Harold and Kumar go to White Castle?

I learned a long time ago there's no sense getting all riled up every time a bunch of idiots give you a hard time.

Severson's offensive potential is very good and we've certainly seen flashes of it. He's also very good off the rush on defense, but I would really like to see his d-zone coverage get better. That would be a huge step in his game.

Especially the Flyers fans who got Claude Giroux at 22nd overall, Voracek in a trade, Mason in a trade, and Gostisbehere in the second round. Top talent outside the top 5? IMPOSSIBLE.

I actually think his defensive is ahead of schedule. We really need to remember that this is a kid that turned 21 years old 7 months ago and has a grand total of 116 games pro experience.

If we look back to Larsson during the 2013-14 season when he was 21 years old and was around 120 games of NHL experience and look where his defensive game was at that point, I would argue Severson is way ahead of that at the same age and expirience level.

Don't forget the sniping by Rag fans who say Schneider who literally turned 30 a week ago is all washed up and won't be good when we're ready to compete (which may be like...next year) but the Rags are just fine with 34 year old declining Lundqvist, no prospects, and no draft picks.

Way ahead really? I would argue that is he certainly behind but I can't see how he is way ahead. The only person his defensive game has been way ahead of is Gelinas and he is gone.

The main board is not a place to go to for sound logic

Better yet... The main board is not a place to go.

Honestly who cares. Those fans acting like their team is miles ahead are just the typical haters that act like they are personally invested in the team as if a win and a loss is the difference between living and dying.

Why would anyone bother trying to discuss something with someone who refuses to potentially be proven wrong?

Please explain that, I don't see that at all. Larsson had way shorter of a leash so it's hard to even make that statement but I don't see how Severson is/was way ahead of where Larsson was at a similar time in development.

In the polls section, there was a Schenn/Simmonds vs. Henrique/Palmieri thread and it was a landslide in favour of the Flyers duo. I was somewhat surprised. I would honestly keep our two guys going forward but maybe that's just me :help:

Glutton for punishment you are

In the games Larsson did get in: stick, angles, physicality, skating, confidence. Every single thing with Larsson needed work.

Severson needs to pick up on the timing of certain decisions, but he is doing far more than Larsson was. And he's also not getting his bell rung left and right.

Larsson in year two and three was was beat with speed on a nightly basis. He often made bad reads on when leave the offensive zone and it left him flatfooted either chasing the play or with a poor gap that allowed forwards to go around him regularly.

It literally happened just about every game in 2012-13 and 2013-14 to some degree... not sure how anyone canNOT remember that.

It was partially because of poor skating and partly because of inexperience. You still see the lack of foot speed raise its ugly head on on occasion, in fact, it happened on Washington's late PP last night with about 30 seconds left. He recovers better now and that is experience... he's had a lot of it.

But at no point have we seen Severson have trouble with NHL game speed, at no point has he been turned around chasing the play or poor gap control...we do see making poor decisions for sure...but that is the inexperience that gets better with time.

Shero wasn't a bad GM in Pittsburgh whatsoever, his drafting record doesn't concern me, that's more on the scouting department in my eyes.

He's easily one of the better GMs in the league and we're lucky to have him; he's an astute/savvy trader and appears to be committed to sticking to his vision/plan for rebuilding this team. Couple that with the financial freedom provided by our new ownership i'd say the future is looking pretty bright for us.

The idea that you have to tank to be successful is ridiculous, i'm glad we at least try to win every game and don't have to be associated with the likes of Edmonton and Buffalo.

I still maintain that Shero was cursed with having Malkin and Crosby. When the whole team depends on the performance of two players from game to game, things are bound to go wrong.

In New Jersey he has no such obligations or responsibilities. He has freedom to do with the roster as he sees fit.
