In your previous post you said the Rangers were low energy and something something arrogant which couldn't be farther from the truth. They played with good energy, forechecked well, blocked a ton of shots, and didn't allow a SOG in 4 devil PP's. It's not going to be perfect against other good teams in the playoffs. They played well.
I did say low energy. That stems from just a general feel of the team when I watch them. Did you happen to catch any other playoff games? Some of the teams just feel, I don't know, like more active? I guess, in the end, that doesn't necessarily mean they are better or will win. The arrogant comment is directed towards some of the players where I think they refuse to adjust their game, regardless of results on a game to game, period to period, basis. That may not be the correct word, but when something isn't working and you keep forcing it, what are you? Maybe stubborn might be better. They for sure aren't stupid. This is a very smart team so I can't say that.

I liked the checking in the first and end of the third. Perhaps it is just a case of get the lead, shut the game down that made it seem like they stopped. I felt they did not forecheck nearly as hard as they started the game. Clearly backing off to mitigate the Devils speed through the neutral zone and not wanting to get caught deep. PK was great.

No one can realistically say they can beat the bruins right now based on the regular season until someone actually does. Can’t worry about the Bruins till it’s time to worry about the Bruins. I personally think we’re on a collision course and I think as an older team it’ll be to our advantage to get them in the conference Final when maybe they’ve been worn down a bit . But we’ve got to take care of ALOT of business first and we need to do it quicker than we did last year. 2 game 7s in the first two rounds is brutal
Fair points. But for real, are we ever going to win any series in less than 7 games? It's not Rangers hockey if it isn't the most dramatic and stressful way to do it.

Random thought watching some of the highlights. Severson is such a loser. Throwing cheapshots when Goodrow is down on the ice then skates away after he gets challenged. Longest tenured Devil didnt want to break a nail firing his team up when they are down 3-0 getting worked over by their biggest rival. Losing player, always has been. If I were a Debbies fan I'd be pissed.
The Devils resorted to ‘fire up’ gimmicks really quick. That impressed me. Rangers got them off their game early on. Hope they can do it again.

The two played together in juniors in Russia, they know each other well.

No question there was a big lift of morale once Tara got here.
I hope he’s back next season. I really enjoy him on this team.

To be honest blocking that many shots always makes me kind of nervous lol
A lot of those blocks are with good sticks. It’s not like the rangers were laying out risking injury. They were really playing good D. Devils were, likewise, throwing a lot of rubber at the net. I don’t think it’s anything particularly worrisome.

The flip side is that we really didn't play our best game and still won 5-1. Thats what this team has done for 2 years now - use their elite goaltending and PP to win games they weren't overly good in. The Devils aren't going to be better than us at 5v5 every game either
I think they played close to their best, really. The Devils are a good team, very talented. They pushed back. I have very few quibbles with the rangers play yday from what I saw.

And if you think Hughs/Hishier, are going to keep coming up through the middle...
Trouba.. .it's coming wait for it... because i'm coming back to tell you..

hey Rangerbabyboy.... yeah you!

Goodrow Vesey Motte is a great 4th line. Breadth of fresh air to have a checking line that can score and defend instead of some of the past plugs. Depth usually wins it.

No no, you see - the Rangers should never allow any chances or shots or else they suck.

Do people watch other teams' games? There's always back and forth action with both teams getting chances in the playoffs unless there's a complete mismatch like last year's COL-NAS series, and even that one needed OT for some games.
Yep. I like to think of it like a tug o’ war. One team pulls and the other pulls back and if your team ends up taking more territory and eventually winning, your team has been the boss.

Rangers got an early lead. Devils started to push cause they had to. They were losing. Rangers played safer and smarter. Why is this hard to understand? That was a good game.

And honestly who saw a 5-1 win? If you told me that before the game I would've never taken that bet. Was good to set the tone in their building.
I had a feeling it might be no contest. And I said this might happen, before the game.

Everyone was worried about their speed. But playoff hockey is about grit, determination, and tight checking. There's never much space to make plays or skate. So I knew their speed would not be a factor.

Plus they haven't been to the playoffs in ten years, and not familiar with what it takes. And if anything, that clearly showed in Game 1.

The Devils will need to make big adjustments if they want to make a series of this. They need to start playing a Canes type style. By getting in our face and forcing turnovers. As someone mentioned, Vallie said we turned the puck over only 3 times last night. Teams are not gonna lose if they don't turn the puck over.

And I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Goodrow isn't going anywhere.
How is that bad news, need guys like him, it appears as though for the foreseable future we're gonna be a team that loads up at the deadline, having him fill holes in the lineup until the deadline doesnt hurt us, people think he's overpaid, if he is its not by much and will be a lot less once the cap goes up. People wanna wish fighting out of the game but for now its not going anywhere and he is willing even if he isn't exactly a heavy weight.

To me, he is that perfect combo of Kev Klein / Girardi. Has good offensive instincts (plays very well off foxy) and he is honestly more terrifying than Girardi. Girardi was a warrior but Lindy looks like a serial killer out there, he's meaner. This series not being tough on him combined with his recent rest, he will be a huge key for us. He was not well last year, this year we're getting a different version and it immediately is paying dividends.
Lindgren doesn't get enough credit for his puck moving ability and stability as a defenseman in a pairing. He's predictable for Fox and as much as some say he's being lifted by Fox, Fox goes from really good to elite playing with him.

I don't think it was that bad of a take. I was watching the Ranger game. I liked the way the team opened the game, first 15, and I liked the last 15 minutes of the 3rd. However, they were sluggish, sloppy and couldn't get the puck deep in the entire 2nd. The defense played great and Igor made a few good saves when he had too, but I don't think he actually had to be that good cause the D didn't give up too much.

I just think getting literally zero zone time from the end of the first to the beginning of the third is not great. It is still a team that turned the puck over in the neutral zone way too many times.

Also, did you not read the parts where I said they remind me of the Stanley Cup Champion Ducks team from 2007? I'd say that is a pretty positive take. We have a great PP, a good PK and we are efficient with our chances. Meaning if a team makes a mistake against us, we are probably going to score, and that is a good way to be. It makes your opponents grip their sticks too tight cause every little thing they do wrong will likely be a goal against. It is mentally taxing.
I don’t think sluggish is the right word. They were playing fetch with nj. Making them do all the skating.

I understand the appeal to talk about individual player performances, and their ability to produce offensively. But what is most important in the post season is team defense. And we put together a great defensive effort last night. I knew we kept turnovers to a minimum, but only 3 all game? That is exceptional. Know way we can expect that on a nightly basis. But still, we clogged the slot well, not allowing second chances,... had good sticks, breaking up plays and cross ice passes,... closed gaps, not allowing easy entry into the zone..... made simple plays, chipping the puck out of the zone, having a strong backcheck, blocking shots, etc, etc...

These are things we definitely can do on a nightly basis. And based on this defensive prowess, we can go far in these playoffs. Because in the end, the few times we might break down defensively, we have the best goalie in the league to bail us out.

Boston has given up 6 goals and is losing 6-2 to Florida late in the game.

I knew they were no world beaters. They have the same team as they had last year, which is why it's surprising they had this incredible record breaking season.

Does Boston throw in Swayman next game? LOL!

Someone on the Devils board said early in their GDT 'everytime we (the Devils) go to the net one of our guys ends up on the ground, can we start doing the same to them please'. That's playoff hockey baby, which we cut our teeth doing last year for 3 grueling rounds.
The Devils will figure it out. I’m just hoping it’s not ‘til next year :)

I'll just remind everyone to cut the hubris!
