Getting wayyyy ahead of myself here, but I wouldn’t mind Mrazek back next year to pair with Kochetkov.

That was some of the worst goaltending I’ve seen in quite a while. It’s a game you have to win when it’s gift wrapped like that, so good job and move on. Keep the train rolling.
What’s funny is there’s a poster named Bleedred on the Devils board that analyzes every goal in every game and assesses what’s stoppable and what’s not for the entire nhl. It’s a great thread that I highly recommend. I’m guessing Bleedred would agree with Bleedgreen’s assessment for this game.

Now I have a dilemma... The last game I brought my BIL to was the Arizona shit bomb. I was planning to bring him in Friday, and given how things have gone since... Is it worth the risk?

Nope sorry BIL is going to have to watch from home.

Personally I want Bleedblue take on this

The way they played in front of Pyotr tonight reminded me of how they played in front of Anderson early last season.

I think it stresses Rod out, but when the players loosen up a little bit, and the goalie is in a groove and the players are feeding off of his confidence this team has the talent to go toe to toe with the best teams in the league.

I kept looking at the shot count and thinking that the ice wasn’t tilted like that … not going to go back in the GDT and read it all, but is it my imagination or did the Canes play a decent Aho-less game (with minimal Svech impact too) and capitalize on some good chances?

Defensively they seemed to keep the Devils to the outside for the most part … two notable exceptions were two cross-crease passes that got through, and both times the Devils player brought it against the grain and Kochetkov made the saves with the middle of his pad. My impatient ass would have shot both right away (and probably scored - on a beer league goalie).

I guess the breakaway save on Bratt was big too. So 3 notable exceptions.

The Canes did play a good game without Aho, but the Devils also played a good game. They are fast, afterburner fast like the Canes were a couple of years ago. There were some long stretches where they controlled the puck quite a bit and got several shots before the Canes could get back to their end of the ice.

Think about it this way — take away the three egregious softies on Jersey’s end, and this is a tie game headed to OT. In that scenario, which team was lucky to steal a point?

Was the first goal bad? Kind of a scramble deal no? I didn’t get a good look tho.

Your point is taken … I just feel like it was a lot of perimeter stuff for the Devils.

The first one was fine. Staal’s was… not egregious, but one you want back. The next two were the kind of goals where you straight up blame the goalie for the L.

That’s true too. There were a lot of casual saves in between the highlight reel saves. They were definitely juicing the shot count and waiting for something to find daylight. They remind me so much of the Canes at an earlier stage of their development.

Koko Miami
Dougie went down to Raleigh, he was lookin' for a game to steal
He was in a bind 'cause he was fallin' behind
And he was willin' to make a deal
When he came across this young goalie holding the crease and playin' it hot
And Dougie jumped up on an oak stump
And said, "boy, let me tell you what"
"I guess you didn't know it but I'm a stickpuck player too
And if you'd care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you
Now you play a pretty good stickpuck, boy
But give Dougie his due
I'll bet a stick of gold against your soul
'Cause I think I'm better than you"
The boy said, "my name's Koochie and it might be a sin
But I'll take your bet, you're gonna regret
'Cause I'm the best there's ever been"
Koochie, hold down your crease and hold that line hard
'Cause Hell's broke loose in Raleigh, and Dougie shoots the pucks
And if you win, you get this shiny stick made of gold
But if you lose, Dougie gets your soul
Dougie lined up a shot and he said, "I'll score this goal"
And fire flew from his fingertips as he fired it off low
And he shot the puck through the crease
And it made a evil hiss
Then a band of Devils joined in
And it sounded something like this
When Dougie finished, Koochie said, "well, you're pretty good, ol' son
But sit down on that bench right there
And let me show you how it's done"
"Fire on the Mountain" run boys, run
Dougies in the House of the Canes Nation
Stormy in a bread pan pickin' out dough
Koko, does your dog bite? No, child, no
Dougie bowed his head because he knew that he'd been beat
And he laid that golden stick on the ground at Koochie's feet
Koochie said, "Dougie, just come on back if you ever wanna try again
I done told you once you son of a bitch, I'm the best that's ever been"

You're right. In a 4-1 game, if you take away 3 goals from the team that scored 4 it's a tie game. :sarcasm:

Kidding aside, the fallacy with that type of scenario is that it assumes the Canes will play the exact same way tied 1-1 as they are leading 3-0, 3-1 or 4-1. Same goes for NJ. Teams that are trailing often put a lot of shots on goal because they are trailing as we've seen in the past with some of the earlier Canes teams, as you suggested.

Yes they were fast, yes they controlled the puck. No most of their shots were not really that dangerous. They played the game most of us around here complain about the Canes playing. Thats not out playing your opponent, thats out skating them, nothing more.
