Starting Kampf just works in 3 on 3. It's not a big deal Keefe started Matthews Marner earlier in pre season. Just see but we have enough of a sample size and Keefe knows it too.

Thought Samsonov, Tavares and in-zone team defence were pretty poor tonight. I dunno why Minton is so good, but him with Knies was just great to watch. Thought everyone else was fine.

Minton might actually be good enough to make it... hope he and Knies play again Saturday against the Wings main roster to get a better gauge.

When you have guys like Minton and Knies who are fresh blood and will die to be on the team, that usually bodes well for the roster. Not to mention they are extremely skilled for their age. It's rare for guys like them (especially Mintin) to make it. But they earned it. They gotta make it

Kampff didnt do jack
No, but I think getting Marner out there without Matthews is the right track. Marner tends to look for Mathews in OT too much, leading to dumb mistakes that end up costing them. Maybe experiment with other guys who can take faceoffs?

Really torn on the Minten decision. He has played well, and on merrit he's been one of our best 12 forwards. He's also the type of player who could succeed in the NHL as a teenager with his size, IQ, and maturity, and has shown great chemistry with Knies. But his offensive development may be delayed by his current role much like with a guy like Couturier early in his career, when he was deployed in a checking/energy role.

Nice of the boys to bother winning it in OT for the home town preseason crowd lol. I actually mean that, that's a fun win for all the kids there, seemed like a lot.

Very much a preseason game. Matthews line was just toying around all game. I can't imagine Minten makes the team just based on contracts and conventional career path development wisdom, but the fact that there is a conversation about it even is great on him.

I think if Minten were to become a great 3C for this team most people would be thrilled. He’s already looking like he’ll be able to fill that role, and if he keeps this up, everything else from there is just gravy.

Hoping he can be a similar player to Anthony Cirelli for us long term.

What'a you know, they barely beat the Wings B team in OT. Shocking for a team with an overpaid core 4 that wants to win a cup !!! :eek3:

I still think they should explore trading Samsonov and keep Jones and Woll as our starting tandem.:eek3:
